Re: Tesla Model 3

A blanket statement saying that 200kwh in a single car battery is bad for the environment has no meaning as we don't know the production process of said future battery. If it's made at a solar power gigafactory than it might be 100% environmentaly friendly. How many solar powered Gigafactories are ...

Re: Tesla Model 3

It is surprising that Telsa is moving to rare earth magnets, this is not good for mass production or green manufacturing. The only reason is to increase the range slightly, at a considerable cost and reduction in "green value" for a vehicle that is supposed to be green. The car being something that...

Re: Tesla Model 3

Small cells are like small chips. They only make sense until you know how to make big ones. It is a stopgap solution. Re: Tesla Model 3

Tesla is burning week by week through investors money. What they depseratly need is that the show must go on. Part of that show is to claim, that they have some magical technological advantage. I see no "overall advantage" in small cylidnric cells now (when large pouch cells have become much cheape...

Re: Tesla Model 3

With the resulting fire hazard we cannot tolerate dead cells in a pack. Which is easier to remove? One of many thousands of cells welded deep in a massive pack, or one of a couple dozen in a bolted set? The future is not moving toward more parts in the system. Tesla is making do with what is cheapl...

Re: Tesla Model 3

Managing thousands of small cylindrical cells is a short term solution. None of the other carmakers seem to be interested in that. For the long haul much larger cells will take over and obsolete all the small cell systems. You have to decide what you want to own. If the technology is not stable, yo...

Re: Tesla Model 3

True, the gigafactory is their ace card at the moment. I think they will need to keep innovating or die - keep pushing the tech. Performance they have pretty much nailed, but next-gen battery would be a good one. AFAIK they are investing in people/research/startups on this so good luck to them and ...

Re: Tesla Model 3

. . . .when most people say the word Tesla they think about a highly desirable fancy Electric car so Tesla got the branding nailed down for sure. Tesla should listen to you on that. But both the Model S and the Model 3 are efforts away from that into the relatively cheap, eventually. The branding t...

Re: Tesla Model 3

I see the biggest challenge to Tesla being the existing large ICE car manufacturers. Now the EV drivetrain is become mature and components & systems being offered by OEMs, it's becoming easier for them to nail together an effective EV and leverage their considerable existing manufacturing experienc...

Re: Tesla Model 3

The few people I have known who worked at Tesla say it is a crazy place to work, huge stress, impossible hours, unrealistic deadlines and the CEO terrorizes the staff. Turnover is large. Not good. Well I call everyone stupid who didnt know that before they have started there. If you want to make so...

Re: Tesla Model 3

I have read a stack of articles over time saying Elon/Tesla have been ignoring expert opinion that the core reason they have such poor production numbers is that they are trying to use robots in the manufacturing cycle where other car manufacturers don't (and have very much examined doing so but it...

Most companies don't show a profit for a while after starting a large expansion.

But as I said Tesla has shown a profit at least once after an expansion and it was after the model s launch.

Mmmmmm, analog electronics. A slowly disappearing art unfortunately.
Parts of the system will always have to be analog as there is no other way to determine amplitude and position of things.

Re: Tesla Model 3

By the way Tesla has shown a profit at least once I know of and it was back at the end of the 1st 1/4 in 2013 after the model S was being delivered. They could have stayed their showing "profits" but that would keep them as a small company for ever. The only way to get where they want to go is to go...

Amazon and Tesla are two very different companies! You cant compare the two.
Not saying you can. But Tesla is making money they just re-invest all of it into more growth this thing would not work any other way.

That's pretty much the case.

There were many factors at play;

The company buyout of Astro
High production cost
No suitable controller to run it
Etc

Tesla is an energy company a car company a battery company and Elon him self has his fingers in a lot of pots. I don't see them failing. Re: Arlo1 Inverter build for Emrax 268

Awesome to see I helped inspire some more cool projects. I used a 200pf blanking cap as the 100pf was to fast for the slow switching IGBTS Also I have run it to 1000hz. 15000 rpm with a leaf 4 poll pair motor. You should be ok to at leat 5000 rpm but it will depend on the current rise time in the mo...

Awesome cars, poorly run company. Where else can a company get away with never making a profit, and losing -$4000 per car? https://www.tflcar.com/2018/04/tesla-first-quarter-2018-results/ This is 100% not true. They make ~23% profit form each car but they use all of that money and more to grow the ...
