Re: relation between Motor power and battery power

The only potential issue is if the controller has an HVC (high voltage cutoff) that is below the 36v pack's voltage range--if so, the controller will disable itself. AFAICR some of the Currie/etc stuff did this.

Re: R Martin EVD Moped with HubMonster

Most of the SLAs Ive run across that are "dead flat" at zero volts won't charge at all, ever again; they're destroyed. Many of them are swollen and cracked open at that point. Occasionally I will get one that accepts a charge, but even after it's full capacity has flowed thru it from the charger, it...

Re: Solar Cycle Analyst?

The only issue with using a CA to measure solar is that the solar power reads negative, That depends on which way you hook up the shunt. If current flows from the shun'ts BATT end to it's LOAD end, it's positive. The other way is negative. I think the CA has enough juice to handle the task if wired...

Re: Challenge with brakes

There are a few threads discussing rear brake options you could use. If you're handy, you could cut the U-brace with rim brake bosses off a junk suspension fork, and clamp/bolt (or weld) it to the rear stays, kinda like how I added them to this fork: https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f...

Re: The SB Cruiser: Amberwolf&Dogman's 2WD CargoTrike&DogCarrier

Dual-pull lever setup worked great on the commute; much easier to use than the two Avid levers side by side, and pulls better (though half of that is probably the cable/housing changes).

Also no more brake squeal in turns due to having to have the pads so close to the rim, and due to cable routing.

Re: BRAKES making them better ????

Regarding this old post from last year, I've finally gotten the double-cable lever installed in place of the two Avid levers, and it's actually much better braking now (though I also changed some other things like cables/housings/routings at the same time, so if nothing else the single lever is a lo...

Re: Power PCB for Lebowski Controller to be combined with Bobc's processor board

Basic simplified theory: Shielded cable just shields against external signals inducing into the center conductor(s) by sending them to ground. Twisted pair has currents flowing thru closely-paired conductors equally, so cancelling out induced noise. Practice can be a little different, depending on a...

Re: Using a 1000W DD hub motor as a generator?

I found a 4-pole on-off-on switch in the UK at a very low price. That's a double-pole, so you'd have to gang two of them to siwtch at the same time to get 4 poles, if you really need to switch all teh shunt's wires for your purposes. But just one will work to switch the shunt input side from the ch...

Re: Using a 1000W DD hub motor as a generator?

The other problem is whilst they were 30A rated, it was at 12VDC (or 120/240VAC) which means I'd be pushing my luck with 36VDC; much less 48VDC Since you're not switching under load, it wouldn't matter. The DC rating is basically a gap size to ensure that any arc occurring during switching under lo...

Re: Alternative current

I'm not sure what he's saying about cutting the power to a quarter, that doesn't jibe with my understanding. The side with no speaker doesnt' use significant power--no load means no current flow. So if you used just one speaker on one side, it'd use half the power it would if you had a speaker on e...

Re: Using a 1000W DD hub motor as a generator?

As the +ve is common to both ends, I could save switching one wire, but only by sacrificing easy, unplug and go, removal of the shunt/buck module. I think I would need a quadpole-double or triple throw, 30A capable switch, and I'm guessing without having looked that they are as rare a rocking horse...

Re: Alternative current

If they're in series, using both amps, you're cutting the power they use in half or less because nothing is ground referenced anymore; you're just getting the difference between left and right channel. So it's not stereo, either: if you feed the same signal into both channels you won't get any sound...

FWIW, http://ebikes.ca has JST (and anderson) connector packs, if that makes it easier. They used to sell some Crystalyte stuff with those round 5-pin-DIN types, so maybe they have the matching one laying around for sale, too? The XTs can be had from various places, too. BTW, when you do wire them u...

Anyway of making the R martins from china sold on Ali express road legal in U.S. It (really, almost any ebike) already is road legal in Arizona--just operate it at less than 20MPH. However, you'd probably be constantly harassed by the police about it, because it looks like a motorcycle, and I don't...

Re: Using a 1000W DD hub motor as a generator?

The only complication I see at this point is that my pack uses different set of wires for charging than discharging, which means I will need to break out a plug at both ends of the pack and swap the meter end to end each cycle. I know many BMSs have separate charge/discharge connections, and I thin...

Re: Bulk charger Help please

I hadn't thought about that when I made my previous reply. :/ What is the lowest voltage the HLG you have will go to during current limiting (at it's max current)? If it goes down to say, half it's rated voltage, then that's 97V total. At 26s, that's about 3.73v/cell, so somewhere along the flat(ish...

I usually hit the throttle once I get going, but the slipping/breaking happens really at any point during the ride. So I guess mashing the throttle? THen try riding without mashing the throttle, just slowly rolling on the power, and see how it holds up. If that prevents the problem, then you can in...

No, he won't, because the controller he has came with the motor and is already setup for it.

He just has to determine the wiring to use and build a wiring harness.

Re: Using a 1000W DD hub motor as a generator?

The only issue I see with that one is that it still appears to require a separate 12v external power supply to run the base unit itself, independent from the power it's measuring. The good news is it's easy to get 12vdc output DC-DC units, with various ranges of input (which would hook up to your ba...

FWIW, you haven't answered the question of how you apply power yet.

If you're already applying it slowly then a cush drive won't help.

Not sure exactly what info you want on it (there isn't a specific how-to for your situation; you'd have to come up with something based on the idea itself, for the parts you have or could get). This google search for "cush drive" seems to turn up explanations that are clearer than I would have writt...
