Re: Hub motor as a MIDMOUNT direct rear drive?

the photo was from John in CR's project years ago... This is the best answer, but can you tellme how to do it? or even better show me a ES thread about it..... all I see in their 1000w motor......what would happen if I add more amps? more heat? their new 1500w motor shows the same graph...............

Re: How resilient are hub motors to wet and bumps?

+1 MR, I live in Oregon City, OR, we get almost as much rain as Seattle WA, and I have run DD hub motors (9C style mainly) and all I have ever done is use a drip loop to keep water from being directed inside the hub motor. Be careful how you seal things up, not allowing for water to evaporate out an...

Re: Casey Jones, Watch Your Speed! (Serious Ebike Accident)

I like the idea of the liberty trike, but I have been told no more Ebikes by family, and you're right, it might not be that he had this problem because of his injury, but I had been riding with him enough times to see him do some scary things that I am sure that if he realized, he would not be doing...

Re: Casey Jones, Watch Your Speed! (Serious Ebike Accident)

Sorry about the pics, I haven't found a good way to post on msg boards with google yet, any suggestions? I had to stop using Photobucket, and since have been trying to use google pics with poor success, seems everything is geared to using a smartphone anymore, and I know there has to be a way to do ...

Re: Casey Jones, Watch Your Speed! (Serious Ebike Accident)

Thanks guys, he really has been on the fringe for years, I tried to convince other family members that we needed to get him off the road, but I wasn't able to convince them. This time around, no Ebike from me, I will take him to bicycle paths (assuming he will want to ride again any time soon) super...

Casey Jones, Watch Your Speed! (Serious Ebike Accident)

On Monday 8/14/17 at about 7:30 in the morning, my father, riding his 36V 500Watt Ebike hit the side of an SUV that was parked with the rear side slightly into the street in a residential area near our house. He went through this rear side window face-first, and is very lucky to be alive. He is curr...

Re: Comparing DD vs geared motors : Best setup for city comm

The best hub motor setup for really heavy weights starts with a very small wheel, like 20", and a direct drive motor that can handle running at less efficient rpms. If the motor is big enough, run lots of power so you stay out of the inefficient rpm ( when heavily loaded) for the motor. I guess tha...

Re: Life, maintenance & repairing of geared hub motors

Welcome to ES my friend! I think what you are doing is great, I have a friend in India who is also into Ebikes, I am curious what are the laws concerning the size of the motors? All I see is 250W, is that because of more powerful motors being illegal or just too expensive? As to your search for a su...

Re: Sturmey-Archer 5-speed hub, it's real!

To the OP, sorry to see that it appears the 5-speed isn't quite as strong as you hoped, on the positive side, much as has been mentioned, you might get the best of both worlds even with the limited gear ratio of the 3-speed, since you can run higher voltage and "regulate by throttle" so that your in...

Hehe! I was thinking something more like this (but more realistic looking): https://brianscomics.files.wordpress.com/2015/10/sw-speeder-bike-tricycle-1.jpg Or for the "rat rod" look (not to look like it has a tank or ICE, but just this general style): http://www.dieselbike.net/ratbikes/IsleofWhiteRa...

Re: "E-Zilla" w/ Cro Motor mid-drive * UP-DATE Chopping Fram

That is a good Q! I won't know the answer until I have sufficient funds to put it through the paces, currently, I have swapped in a MXUS 3000w motor since I haven't put more than about 1600w through it. I have been told that even when you exceed the 95 ft/lbs of torque, the worst that should happen ...

Re: HOW CAN E-BIKES PROLIFERATE

I am lucky to live where bicycle bike lanes along roads and separate paths are fairly common, however, either people bike, or they do not. Most customers are already interested in biking, and those who aren't are not likely to be swayed. I take for granted that others are willing to ride along in tr...

I will post this on that site too, but the best product I have yet come across for a true cargo E-Trike that is readily available is the "Truck Trike" in Portland Oregon:

Yep! The 3-speed is a even more cost effective & well proven IGH from what I hear ... BUT! I have had really good results in the durability department thus far using a NuVinchi N171B, bu...

I ended up just going without a tensioner or derailleur. It's a 1600 watt cyclone kit basically, and 44t chainwheel up front. WP_20161104_17_38_55_Pro.jpg How much wattage are you running through that 5-Speed? Also love to see more about your build, do you have a build post? Sounds like lots of fun...

Re: Winter (Extra Stretched Cruiser) Frame building project!

Got to see a Sun recumbent seat in person today, so I am pretty certain for the trip next spring, that will be my choice for the trip. :D Not a hammock style seat, just a big block of memory foam, but very comfortable just the same, and the rear mesh back should work well. Not my preferred style, bu...

Re: Winter (Extra Stretched Cruiser) Frame building project!

Ok, since the backrest will need to move with the saddle, I should be able to make this work, but it will have to be a bit higher to allow for more adjustment of the saddle, and the backrest will just be two tubes that bolt along side the saddle mount, allowing for the use of bicycle saddle rails, j...

Re: Winter (Extra Stretched Cruiser) Frame building project!

Here is a better pic of the style of saddle I want, and will eventually design a seat that will give both the vintage styling, and advantage of the full back-rest. For now, just a cut & paste from one of my favorite saddle designs from a 1939 Crocker motorcycle: http://i1119.photobucket.com/albums/k...
