FWIW, Chalo builds pedicabs and wheels for them, too, which is one good reason to follow his advice on wheelbuilding. ;) If they work for that application, they'll survive most anything else you throw at them.
Who do you think is building my new wheel set?

Re: If you were to build a 48v Tesla module battery...

It's just a lot of weight so it'll increase power usage (possibly significantly) if you have stop/start traffic or hills. The nice thing about these modules is that they are obscenely light for the capacity, they come it at 55lbs and the case I’m planning on using weighs 10lbs. So at a total 65lbs ...

If you were to build a 48v Tesla module battery...

How would you go about charging and monitoring it? I noticed that user okashira has Tesla modules on his website that he has retermintated for 12s instead of six. For most people on this forum I imagine that that the form factor would be a no go for them, but for me being in the giant tricycle busin...

Re: Sur-Ron - New Mid drive Bike from China

At that price, if all you want is a different motor, you can buy the full bike and put a different one on it, and sell the original one on ebay :) For me having some experience with the hpm5000b I feel that a lighter hpm3000b is pretty attractive. Add onto that that the seemingly custom controller ...

As far as I know everybody is using the standard 36v setup with the 36v20ah pelican batteries. So it's whatever you and ken installed for euphoria.

Re: Pedicab emergency @Coachella cyclone 1920-3000w

You'd have most of the hands on with these motors Chalo ;) The problem that these guys are getting seems a lot like what happened with my 1000w geared rear hub as a mid drive. You will still get some motive force forward but only if you are already going, feels like a slipping clutch on a manual tra...

Pedicab emergency @Coachella cyclone 1920-3000w

Is there anyone on the west coast that has some cyclone model 1920-3000w motors that would be willing to sell and fast? There's a bunch of pedicabbers working Coachella that use these for a rear drive and some of the motors are starting to slip. I'm guessing it's the internal gears. There's a lot on...

Tuning down an em3ev 18fet controller questions.

Upgraded my controller from 12fet to 18fet on my Mac motor. I want to have it limited to 40a like it used to run on the 12fet so it stays cool and unstressed. I have the programming cable and software all set up. Has anyone programmed a em3ev/cellman 18fet? I've heard that the settings aren't exactl...

These dudes were working on this at the community work shop that I operate out of (artisans asylum) so I got a chance to see this first person. I mean, it's cool and all and more power to them but it seemed kinda janky and I don't understand the need to reinvent the wheel. It's pretty much a geared ...

Re: BMC V4 TT on Tricycle project.

I was going to say the same thing as amberwolf. As a professional giant tricycle driver I can tell you that you are going to want some gears on that thing and you'll get better performance with a mid drive so you're killing two birds with one stone. I have a couple pedicabs, one fitted with a BMC v2...

As far as patience and people skills, I have that in spades from my years as a pedicab driver and the service industry. Opening up a ebike retailer in Boston

So a couple of weeks ago my phone started going off with text messages from various friends who had spotted a craigslist job posting for someone who can work on and sell electric bicycles. Well I interviewed and accepted the position and found myself essentially guiding this ship on its maiden voyag...

Re: ebikes & alcohol

I remember back about ten years ago me and my girlfriend at the time used to go out to "neighbors" one of the local gay clubs on Wednesdays for the $3 doubles night. I would get so swacked on gin and tonics that I couldn't even walk without using my bike as a cane. But as soon as she hopped up on my...

Re: Shorted throttle wires, I think I killed my controller

Thanks AW , I checked the voltage on the throttle line and it came out at 4.65 volts according to my multimeter. I wonder if it could be that all my throttles are junk. I've been trying the three wire ones and the four wire ones swapping the extra wires to try and get the right combo. I'm also going...

Shorted throttle wires, I think I killed my controller

I was setting up the new pedicab system, BMC v2 second hand hi power cycles and was having trouble with the throttle. In the midst of fooling around with the wiring I accidentally shorted the black and red, there was a big spark and I quickly disconnected everything. Now I notice that the "on" light...

Re: Mainstreet pedicab with BMC v2 mid drive

That looks like it's going to be awesome! :) Are you planning on front-wheel drive, or are you going to use the BMC to drive the rear differential? The mid drive on a pedicab is essentially a rear MTB hub with a single speed cog bolted on to the disc brake mounts. So it made sense to just use a rea...
