Re: Bitcoins

I have access to a twin CPU Xeon e5 2603v4 6-core with 256GB RAM and an Nvidia quadro M4000 graphics card with free electricity that's sat idle 99% of the time. Would this be any use? That would be awesome for mining Monero or any other cryptonote based coin. I am currently mining turtlecoin ( cryp...

Re: Bitcoins

Well, we've had some pretty bodacious dips due to the FUD with south korea and the insider trading shit that their government has been doing. Yet, the market is still alive and growing after the weak hands have been shaken out. Crypto certainly isn't going away. I bought during a couple of those dip...

Re: Bitcoins

So Amazon came into this world a big money maker. Of course there's people all over the internet saying differently to try to support some point they wish they could make. They are aided by the lack of real detailed info, I sure can't find it. Only articles that rave on and on without telling much....

Re: Bitcoins

I don't doubt the utility of Ethereum - it sounds like it's doing what bitcoin was promising/ought to have been doing. It satisfies a demand (low cost, easy global transactions) and is practical for everyday use (fast, cheap). Well actually, ethereum has been failing to do what bitcoin promised to ...

Appreciate some stocks are traded speculatively, but ostensibly Amazon et al are raising capital to invest in growing the business/building infrastructure that will hopefully eventually result in a highly profitable business capable of paying dividends. The "real" value of the stock would then be i...

Re: Bitcoins

Sidenote: Amazon was a very smart investment with hindsight, but was it in the early days? Plenty of very similar startups went to the wall and retrospectively were an awful investment. Amazon didn't go public until the public was clamoring for it. Boggy AT&T isn't letting me search for the numbers...

If Bitcoin has no inherent value, pays no dividends Many stocks do not pay dividends, but people still buy them. Amazon has never paid a dividend - yet there's plenty of people who have been made rich by buying amazon stock. You wouldn't call anyone an idiot for buying amazon stock, would you? :mrg...

Nice to hear that you managed to fix that long running problem. Now with that money invested, you can continue receiving the benefits of that car! Re: Bafang G310 geared hub - 11:1 reduction ratio!!!

Hm, that's contrary to how i was taught to count poles. You could be right, i could be wrong.. but.. What i find is that magnet sections divided by 2 = the pole count for every motor i've seen where the manufacturer specifies the number of poles. Example: the MAC motor has 32 magnet sections but 36 ...

I think it could be good for my brompton. It has 16" wheel and I need it to spin to 25mph. Where can I buy with the relevant controller? 11 reduction x 8 poles x 540 rpm = 47520 eRPM. You're absolutely going to need a controller that's capable of a little beyond 50,000 eRPM.. phaserunner, or one of...

The thing with mining Crypto currency is you need thousands of dog hairs just to play the game. You dont need a good cpu, not much ram, but the gpu's are expensive! It takes a while to amortize the hardware you invested in... it can take up to a year in some instances. I got lucky. I started on eth...

Re: Bafang G310 geared hub - 11:1 reduction ratio!!!

I did have an experience where I damaged the gears on one of the motors, while I was late, I increased my phase current limit to 70A, and also removed my speed limit (36V battery, 35A battery current limit). Going up a steep (12% grade according to google maps) I blew the gears. I suspect I was sit...

Re: Bafang G310 geared hub - 11:1 reduction ratio!!!

Could you explain what's bad about the Q128H's eRPM? The eRPM is too high for most controllers to handle. BMSBattery recommends one specific controller for the motor in their lineup, and refuse to sell a higher speed winding for this reason. The motor is crippled by design. They also removed all so...

Re: Bafang G310 geared hub - 11:1 reduction ratio!!!

Yeah. I've always been attracted to the Cute Q128H... but the eRPM is too high because of the 16:1 or so reduction.. therefore it only comes in a terribly slow 201rpm at 36v wind. Also, that motor doesn't seem to be built very sturdy. I spent a while trying to explain to BMSBattery that the motor co...

Bafang G310 geared hub - 11:1 reduction ratio!!!

Was going over vendors' pages looking for new stuff. Came across this interesting geared hub. Figured i'd kick off a thread about it. It's got two gear reductions inside for a overall reduction ratio of 11:1. Very cool. It to be rated for around 350 watts continuous and comes in at 5.6lbs or 2.55kg....

Re: Wind and Solar vs Coal, Gasoline, Nuclear

You'd think so, but we also experience 50-80mph wind a couple times a year and that makes things difficult for solar panels. At least in the valley, where all the energy useage is. Not to say they couldn't use a couple brain cells and build some aerodynamic solar panels, but instead, we get projects...
