Re: Farfles Electric Ultralight.

I have started flight training in a C172 (that i might have the opportunity to purchase), but recently got to ride backseat in someones PA-18 and practice weaving on the taxiway. I corellated it to driving a forklift quickly, it works better backwards :) , its just too bad that the thing needs to ta...

Re: Farfles Electric Ultralight.

Making more progress. The flaperons are done, the flaperon hinges are done, the control cables are hooked up, the pitot tube is plumbed and the cap strips are done but not yet on. All it needs now is the correct tailwheel spring rivets, some more AN hardware to replace some temporary hardware store ...

Re: Got my butt kicked today

Ice and two wheels just sucks. I guess bicycle tires with their exceptionally high surface loading work well with studs, but i have not tried em. What part of the country do you do rigging work at?

Yup! Oratex ul600 it is. Stuffs not cheap, but neither is time on a weekend project. I also hate painting, and dont have the space or equipment

Re: Farfles Electric Ultralight.

High quality BRS's have an amazing track record, and this guy will be getting one. They are spendy, but worth it. The system I am looking at is made by Ballistic Recovery Systems. They make systems from 600lbs up to 3700lbs. Basically Its a rocket deployed parachute that has a 10 year lifespan and ...

Re: Farfles Electric Ultralight.

After pulling the CA data, It sounds like there is another 20% power being left on the table by an amperage limit I had forgotten to change. I will be back at the hangar next week to do some more testing, and ill also have my temp guage wired in by then which will give me much better instrumentation...

Re: Farfles Electric Ultralight.

Got the beatdown done! passed with flying colors! Peak power was 333A at 104V on a full (but cold) pack. it held peak power for 3 mins 45 seconds until it tapered back to 27kw that happened at 255A at 107V. Battery pack hit LVC at 111Ah, which is 95% of its datasheet rating of 116ah (29ah x 4P). The...

Re: Farfles Electric Ultralight.

That appears to be an adjustable pitch prop? So electric motor or no you still have to do the black magic of finding the best blade angle for that motor's torque. And it WON't be the max thrust (as measured by a scale) when tested on the ground, unless you like driving a car around in first gear, s...

Re: Farfles Electric Ultralight.

It's alive! ...well, sort of. Real test will be with the prop installed. Could get pretty windy inside the garage. I've seen them testing planes after an engine overhaul on the ground with some kind of big load cell that measures the thrust. Is the Cycle Analyst FAA approved aircraft instrumentatio...

Thanks for re-linking those images. Ill likely be using short youtube videos along with pictures in future posts, as there are no real stable image hosting sites at the moment.

speaking of, here is the video of the motor spinning up for the first time :)

Re: Farfles Electric Ultralight.

Personally, if I had any data hosted on a site that did something like that, I'd download and then remove the entire account and data. Or maybe leave one little bit that says something like "hey, if y'all are looking for my stuff, this provider did (whatever it did) and caused me to take my stuff e...

Re: Farfles Electric Ultralight.

I really wish all the pictures on this thread were attached to the thread. Now they're just ads for hosting service. :( frocking photobucket is holding about 11 billion images "hostage" by quietly changing their TOS overnight. Putting third party hosting behind a $400 a year paywall. There is an on...

Re: BMS Wiring - complexity at connector vs in harness

They are not gasketed (IMHO, we call sealed boxes "Aquariums" as they tend to pump humidity out of the air into the box) but they are designed with open face potting the container in mind. they are also somewhat freindly to fence-and-fill coatings.

Re: BMS Wiring - complexity at connector vs in harness

Take a look at the JAE MX23 series if you are after sealed right angle connectors. Way less bulky than (I assume) the ampseal you were thinking about. Termnals are cheaper, and housings cheaper aswell. JAE likes to frock people on the crimping tool though, so its kinda the high buy in and low runnin...

There is a voltage scaling feature in advanced setup used for calibration, It may function in a way that is useful to you.

Battery modules are mounted up! CG math says this will get close, but its pretty early on in the weight and balance game, so we will see how much these will have to change. http://i557.photobucket.com/albums/ss15/Farflemotors/image-20170713_174515_zpsxxja3lcb.jpg http://i557.photobucket.com/albums/s...

Re: Farfles Electric Ultralight.

The combined airspeed and altimeter were all I ever needed. Getting a low range airspeed indicator is important for aircraft like this since accuracy at the bottom of the scale is more important than at the top of it. The Stratomaster I have (its sitting on a shelf if you are interested in buying i...
