Re: Wind and Solar vs Coal, Gasoline, Nuclear

Tesla seem to be still testing the big battery.
Yesterday they discharged at 70MW for 1.0 hr and 50 mins continuous, which is 128 MWh.
Looks like a capacity test (129MWh rated)
Unfortunately, i dont have access to see the recharge data, but 10 hrs later they discharged again at 30 MW for an hour.

Re: Wind and Solar vs Coal, Gasoline, Nuclear

Tesla's, "worlds biggest battery" is up and running in Australia.. (probably just testing i assume),.. but its discharge times and power levels can be viewed online here ... http://nem.mwheeler.org/stations#HPRG1 it has delivered several 30MW discharges for periods of 30+ mins and at least one 100MW...

I have 2 of the older 24v 1400 Kva SMART APC UPS's. They put out a true sine wave. I believe I can parallel them to get twice the amp capacity .......
Dont you have to synchronise the sine waves ? ...is that automatic?, Or doesnt it matter ?

Re: Tesla's World's biggest battery in South Australia!

Tesla did what they promissed and installed the 100MW/129MWh battery within 100 days of contract signing. Its up and running , most likely only test/commissioning trials , but online and feeding 300MW intermittently into the grid. Some of the early tests were at 70MW. You can see its output graphed ...

Are you saying the work base and home will be Wimbledon ? Because that is outside conjestion charge area and still very sub-urban. Actually many types of commercial equipment do have "standardised" fitment ICE power units. The most common is probably the 5-6hp range of lawn maowers, garden tillers , cement mixers, compactors, powered wheelbarrows, generators, go karts, pumps, fans , etc etc....all from multiple manufacturers, b...

Re: Super capacitors to save battery life?

A good quality beyyery shouldnt have weak cells/other problems after 300cycles....so i question the qyality of the packs you paid so much for. Ask what the problem was. For the same weight as those 22ah LTOs you could carry 60 ah of 18650s which would have 3000Wh of capacity likely lasting you all d...

Re: Super capacitors to save battery life?

You are really striking a poor compromise . Double the weight Much bigger volume 2/3 the capacity and range All for a slight reduction in charge time ? As was said early on, your 15ahr pack is capable of dealing with 500W of regen and a 1hr charge occasionally if that is needed. You just have to mak...

"Tesla" cells can be a bit missleading. Whilst they have been using mainly cells made and supplied by Panasonic, made to Tesla's spec, it is known that they have also used cells from LG, Samsung, Sanyo (now part of Panasonic) and likely others also. The only cells Tesla have actually manufactured th...

A unlikely comparason, the German power grid , to the USA... USA has 700,000 km of HV grid alone ...Germany has 20,000 ! And the US has approx 4 times as many consumers spread over a 10x bigger area. ! So its surprising the USA doesnt have more issues with power failures. But either way the figures ...

Re: Any Tesla 18650 data sheets available from years gone by?

Tesla's cells are not very high performance cells.
There are many 18650's with much higher discharge ability, some with more capacity,
Tesla's real advantage is their long cycle life with minimal capacity loss together with an aparent ability to tolerate low discharge voltage levels.

Be sure to configure the kart as a "Enduro", or lay back seat design to minimise drag.
lay down kart
And get a bearing hub for one rear wheel to cut out the cornering drag from the solid axle (single wheel drive)

Countrys with high % of RE ( wind and solar) need high levels of storage or thermal back up generation.
