Re: Wind and Solar vs Coal, Gasoline, Nuclear

Tesla's "Big f'n Battery" performance report. ..its been in operation for over a month now in SAustralia and some data is available.. Over the full month of December, the Battery operated in "brief bursts" of 30MW charge, and 30 MW discharge, usually for a few minutes at a time and only ocasionally ...

Re: Anyone actually used the Boston Power 5300mAh cells?

Previously, when i have considered the Boston Power cell, i have dismissed it on cost and availability grounds...
...IE, few vendors, and high cost/Wh.
Have the prices and availability improved now ?

Re: My first ebike battery build, 12p10s for A2B Metro

Can you tell me what the name of the original connectors from the bike to the battery are called.... If you mean those neat 6 pin plug and screw yellow connectors,...i would call them "unique" and impossible to source !. There is a thread somewhere with the makers name and part number (European), b...

Re: Wind and Solar vs Coal, Gasoline, Nuclear

$0.04/kWh is inline with the eia.gov LCOE data for onshore wind. ( after tax concessions ) But , the odd thing is that those Sheperds Flat costs all relate to 2008-2012 contracts whilst the eia figures are for 2022 start ups. A 10 year time difference , which i would have expected to increase the co...

Re: Samsung INR21700-48G

Have you seen other tests on these cells ? Here is one such, on this forum.. https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=91926 It fairly clear from those tests that the full 4800mAh iis available , but there is very little between 4.2-4.1 volts (350mAh ?). And less in the 2.9 - 2.5 volt r...

Re: Samsung INR21700-48G

. 1. The cells pack together a bit better than 18650's. This means more total capacity in the same amount of space. . They are rated at 4800mah so that means that between 2.5 volts and 2.9 volts and above 4.1 volts is another 1200mah that so far I am not measuring. I'm skeptical, but we will see. M...

Re: Wind and Solar vs Coal, Gasoline, Nuclear

Sorry bill, you are not following this at all are you ? We are discussing Germany, where they have built wind farms everywhere, but most concentrated in the North , and offshore, where there is more wind. The issue is now to get that wind power to the south where the demand is, as they shut down the...

There is political discussion now about raising the RE electricity share goal from 50% in 2030 to 65% in 2030, because other sectors so far lack in CO2 reductions... Re: Wind and Solar vs Coal, Gasoline, Nuclear

I'm talking about nationwide fluctuations in demand, so it seems you have to have a few coal plants idling alongside your inflexible baseload coal plants to take up the peaks (and presumably you still need to predict the peak well in advance to feed the boiler and raise sufficient steam). Doesn't t...

Re: Wind and Solar vs Coal, Gasoline, Nuclear

Wind generators in Germany are "guaranteed" a feed in tarrif of 8€ct/kWh for 5 years, and a lower rate for the next 15 yrs..... So who is paying the extra 4€cts ? ( hidden in taxes ?) Again you are not up to date to the real data. They have to bid for the feed in tarif price now....... ...But only ...

Re: Wind and Solar vs Coal, Gasoline, Nuclear

...... How is a coal plant supposed to respond to a 5 minute transient? It doesn't! It does, and has been doing so quite effectively for 100+ years. This is the whole point of having a "grid" of interconnected power generators and consumers. Fluctuations in one area can be adsorbed by compensating ...

Outstanding 48.7% CF = 195MW Average. $8.50 /W is pretty good. It gets a $0.17 feed in tariff since it is replacing diesel for a lar...

Another fact regarding Germanys RE costs... ...German utility company Tennet TSO spent almost a billion euros last year on emergency interventions to stabilize the grid. You and your "facts" about Germany... 3GW in summer and (less than) 1GW in winter would be an average of around 2GW multplied with 8760h per year this would be a PV generation of around 16TWh per year. Real Fact: In 2017 PV production was 38.29 TWh in Germany, more than twice as much as you tell us...

Re: Wind and Solar vs Coal, Gasoline, Nuclear

I dont think anyone is using LiCo 18650s for commercial power storage ?, certainly not Tesla. Because of the compression requirements, and to maximize the economies of scale with the machinery. I do believe Tesla has continued to shun pouch cells or prisms in cans even for grid scale storage and is...
