Re: 3.9C cell with 28mΩ resistance?

It's a DC cell IR tester. Both tested brand new, same temp, same state of charge. Charged many from different batches (all new) and all have the same specs. Can it be that a 4C cell has almost 4 times higher IR than 8C? Bump... You will know when you pull 4C continuous off them. My guess is they wi...

Re: E bike Gearing Why Bother

I build single, the ratio that makes the bike comfortable to ride unpowered. When powered, crank work is useless because it couldn’t add any significant power or speed.

Re: The end of BionX?

I guess GM was hoping for Bionix proprietary systems expertise, so that no one but themselves could fix their cars or supply replacement parts. My last car was a Buick Century. It’s been rotting for so long that a 30 ft tree with an 8 inch trunk had grown through. I still have a running ´6...

My disc lock has a key. I find it’s enough.

My controllers switchin circuits are wired to a toggle switch on the handlebar.

Got to leave a chance to a thief, to experiment either a back flip or a face plant.

Re: Whatever happened to Lyen?

Lyen is still active as far as I know. See his web page stock list at lyen.com

I still use some heavily upgraded 18fet square wave controllers with the cromotor and the X5404. They are not cogging, and the X54 is very silent.

The QS motor V3 does not like square wave. It does fry them.

Re: DC-DC converter from 48V to 6V for E-bike light?

If you use 4 automotive 12v lights on your bike, you can wire them in a series, thus needing no DC-DC converter.

You can also use 6: 2 small red on the rear, 2 low beam and 2 hi beam on the front, with a switching circuit to choose the hi or low.

You don’t know what sparks are, until you vapourize a 75A Anderson power pole shorting 4 bricks of hi C rate lipo, or explode a 200A controller in your living room. Then avoiding the capacitors inrush sparks, only requires connecting first with a very small wire for one second. Re: Is REGEN, really worth it ?

Low power and speed, doesn’t make you feel like you need regen anyway. Accepting the extra weight of a dd hub, is then more about reliability than regen ability. Riding a fast bike does make it interesting, to improve braking and/or efficiency. Those who are riding light weight performance, and will...

Re: How do I choose a motor controller

It would be too easy, if we could just list all the specs and features that we want, and order a controller to meet them. When you don’t have the money or qualifications to build one yourself, you have to make compromises and choose one that is readily available. So, everything is about priorities, ...

Re: Clearance front motor hub and caliper

One solution does fit without the need of any mod: Find a Magura Gustav M front brake.

Another solution is to use a large rotor. A 9 inch or 225 mm disc, and the matching caliper mounting bracket, would space most calipers out of motor rubbing range.

Re: Looking for people that own E-bikes

Ebike cost can be very cheap. We have members on ES who had built their ebike entirely from recycling. They can also be expansive, many of us are riding ebikes that are more ultra light weight motorcycles than bicycles. Nevertheless, the ebike is the cheapest mean of transportation that there is. No...

Re: freewheel spacing/shifter questions

You could just fit a washer on the axle shoulder to spread the dropout a little. The chain won’t rub anymore and you can ride with your actual freewheel. The washer can be filed to axle shape from a 10mm washer, or you can use a C washer. Or, You could use a 5 spd freewheel, for 5 speed is enough wi...

Your question does miss an essential factor: performance.

Recommendation of a frame, does require to know how much power you’re gonna build on it, and how fast you plan to ride.

Re: The ultimate torque arm (For <2kW and standard axles)?

...No matter how powerful the motor is, it can't transmit more torque than it can stick to the ground. Well, torque does kick, even on a wheel that doesn’t touch the ground. When I give it some throttle whilst in a jump, my motor does lift the front of my bike. If I give too much, it can back flip ...

Re: Battery series wiring

Building a battery with cells that are not all the same capacity, C rate and impedance, it will get out of balance every discharge cycle. Its limit will be that of the weakest link, and proper balance charging will take a long time, every time. If you don’t fit a BMS to them, some of the cells are l...

Re: 3.9C cell with 28mΩ resistance?

The state of charge and temperature does affect impedance of a cell. Those parameters should be measured equal, to compare 2 cells. Then, both impedance readings that you have measured are within the manufacturers spec Your Samsung cell impedance should be 7 to 16 m/ohm, 28 m/ohm after trip If my me...

Considering that some more powerful motors can be purchased brand new for 100$, I am not sure that an old Bionix is worth the trouble, if it is not going to retain its only valuable quality of torque sensing system.
