Re: MXUS copper wire coating damaged

just make sure its rated for higher temperatures - super glue can start to break down at ~80C - your wires may get much hotter than that.

Re: Super capacitors to save battery life?

@sunder I am interested in your system? So I am wondering if you did the something I am thinking of doing because of it effecting your batteries? I was looking at replacing the batteries with super capacitors but after a few hours of research that became clear it was not a possibility. That's when ...

Re: Sur-Ron - New Mid drive Bike from China

Trail riding and single track would work great with this bike. I would watch it on the long steep climbs as it would overheat. It's happened to me twice where something cuts the power in half suddenly. It's either the battery, BMS or the controller. The motor is always barely warm when the power cu...

Re: Mystery Mid-Drive Motor Kit from Amazon any good?

for the price, i'd pay $50 odd extra and get a brushless system (hub motor) or about 100 extra for a BL middrive. That particular kit is using a brushed motor/controller, so efficiency wont be as good, and a geared reduction, so its potentially noisy. Its also not that cheap for what you get - ive s...

Re: Using the Wangdd22 1500W 30A DC Boost Converter on an ebike

Well I broke down and bought the Amazon one. It arrives Friday. If the Banggood one shows up I may have the chance to try parallel boosters, but I really don't see the need. If your fan never goes on in Phoenix, then I don't see the need to parallel. My battery is only 10s5p. In fact I may leiminat...

Re: Sur-Ron - New Mid drive Bike from China

Thanks guys for taking the time, now it kind of makes more sense. At least I understand how and why. But to implement something like that on my own.....is there any open source design for these kind of things? Progressive damping is something that is very much spot on to what I had in mind. Main go...

Re: Sur-Ron - New Mid drive Bike from China

So as the swing arm compresses the linkage works the rocker arm. The rocker arm compresses the shock while also working the opposite side of rocker arm to move the "wishbone". The "wishbone" got a pivot point on the frame too. So here is where the linkage outsmarted me. What is the job of the wishb...

This bike is now back on the market. - Its a heap of trouble-free fun - but I'm moving on to other projects. Priced very competitively at $3000 - Ive added approx 50 - 75 cycles to the battery. Located in Adelaide. Includes charger and extra tyres . hey mate, Still interested in the bike, would you...

Re: Show off your lebowski controller

i'll throw my 2c worth of support behind the ts100. heats up so quick I turn it off more regularly than i would a normal iron - and has an auto off if it doesn't sense it being used for an extended period which is great if you forget it from time to time, works on anything 12v to (i think) 32v, full...

Re: Using the Wangdd22 1500W 30A DC Boost Converter on an ebike

nice write up - im thinking of using one as a 'booster' for my current 48V commuter - works fine on 12s but could easily wire one of these in to boost the voltage when I want a little more top speed, using a relay to cut in/out as needed and get the voltage up to 14s territory. Debatable if its wort...

Re: Low RPM low power high torque motors for direct drive

Hello! For solar-powered robot design, I need very efficient, low power motors being able to give 0,5-0,7 Nm torque at 53 RPM. The operation voltage is 6.6V. I haven't seen any brushless motors lower than 30Kv. If I understand it correctly, I need 53/6.6=8,5Kv motor. Is such motor physically possib...

Re: Spray foam to secure batteries?

something i've thought about doing too - the one issue i see however (other than stickyness if you ever need to remove cells) is its insulating properties... if you cells are even slightly stressed they may get rather toasty - something that will likely get worse as they age. Not such a big deal if ...

Re: Trial riders need their clutch?

The amount of instantaneous "power" you can get from a clutch dump depends on the stored energy in the flywheel and how fast the clutch can engage. It may be limited by clutch slip. Yes, we can do the math on this (but I'm lazy), but a fast clutch dump will produce several times more torque than yo...

Re: Trial riders need their clutch?

Most electric motors are limited by the saturation of the iron in how much torque you can get, even for a short blip. Spinning up a flywheel and dumping a clutch can give a much higher torque peak. Seems like it wouldn't be all that hard to put a clutch on an electric trials bike. It might need a j...

Re: Trial riders need their clutch?

im struggling to think of a clutch dump behavior that couldn't be matched by a more dynamic throttle response (And possibly just some extra phase current) - think about whats going on - a clutch dump is using the flywheel momentum coupled with the relatively fast action of dumping a clutch to provid...

Re: If you are building packs today, which cells to choose?

Instead of the Sanyo 20700B's I'm trying to build my next pack out of Sanyo 20700A cells. Obviously they have less capacity, just 3100mAh... but they are also rated at 30A continuous discharge per a cell, and from what I have heard, that is a realistic number. My goal is to build basically the smal...

Nice work, so many triangles. Is the pedal hanger and head tube a bolt on arrangement? I assume you'll produce two of these as largest components of the chassis? Any lessons in the machining that would inform future designs? Sounds like you walked under a ladder while kicking a black cat :? haha ye...
