Re: Wind and Solar vs Coal, Gasoline, Nuclear

I been looking at electrictymap a bit lately and I noticed over the last week everytime the wind died down in Europe the map of Germany on this site would go grey like a country who is not providing data. I wonder if Germany behaves like children with their energy generation data on down days and ju...

Re: Wind and Solar vs Coal, Gasoline, Nuclear

Burning wood chips is indeed both sustainable and renewable (look up the definitions of those words) but it's not - and should not be - our main source of energy. It's a great secondary source when the wood is available anyway as trash. As long as it's grown back sure it is renewable but like most ...

I think you have forgotten the basis of your original point...that coal plants need a local supply of fuel. ...Which is of course untrue, as there are numerous such plants around the world fueled on imported coal ftom countries such as Australia, Brazil etc. it is a cheap , stable, solid fuel that ...

Re: Wind and Solar vs Coal, Gasoline, Nuclear

Niagara Falls hydro has 5 GW installed capacity. Shared 50%/ 50% with Canada. I couldn't find anything on actual production average. Massive as this hydro source is, it wouldn't come close to propping up a 100% RE blend of 24GW on long winter nights if the wind dies. . These numbers are daunting. 1...

"Thebeastie", do you have a reading comprehension problem? Or do you just ignore when someone replies to your posts? Re: Wind and Solar vs Coal, Gasoline, Nuclear

Was a pretty big storm in Victoria the other night. Widespread blackouts across Victoria have progressively been fixed after thunderstorms lashed the state. More than 100,000 properties were without power at one point on Tuesday night when wild wind gusts reaching up to 117km/h felled trees and powe...

Re: Wind and Solar vs Coal, Gasoline, Nuclear

If there was ever a renewable energy I respect it would have to be hydro-electricty, of course South Australia is a great example that would kill to be able to have a hydro-electricty dam somewhere in its state but it just can't, but it is rumored to be looking at the idea of concreting the crap out...

I have watched a few CNBC interviews with cyrpto-coin heads. They interviewed the CEO/Founder of Litecoin and the presenters made some points that made current crypto coins look stupid. Came across this article from Bitcoin.com, it talks about how Bitcoins network is struggling. Re: Wind and Solar vs Coal, Gasoline, Nuclear

The CO2 in our breath, or from our compost piles, or that's emitted when we burn wood, is part of a natural closed cycle. It's not the problem. The problem is emitting billions of tons of fossil carbon as CO2 without having a corresponding mechanism to take it back out of circulation. Rising atmosp...

Well, South Australia/Adelaide had their first newsworthy blackout, if it wasn't for the fact it was in the city center etc it probably would have been swept under the rug. I think I used to be a subsilver user but I probably changed to that view mode the day I joined and forgot it wasn't default.
I am now using the Square NX style and it looks/works great for me.

Well done on the upgrade.

I bought a tiny bit of bitcoin to play with and I couldn't believe how crap it is. Re: Why would battery connector melt?

There is an XT90 connector between the breaker and the shunt, the positive bullet within the connector has actually melted the yellow plastic and separated from it (the yellow has turned black!). The negative is completely fine. Is this just down to a poor connection/solder do you think? Unless you...
