Re: Using bicycle's frame as heatsink for the Phaserunner

Seems there are various threads about heatsinks for the Phaserunners. wonder why there ain't a 12 FET version available? Or even bigger? Seems a lot of people love what the phaserunner does, but after seeing these threads it seems some would want a higher FET version of the phaserunner. What kind o...

Re: where can i find this cable to the hub motor?

teklektik is correct about the lack of strain relief. If you use marine heatshrink it has hot glue inside so you dont need as many layers... although the best way I have found is to put some hotglue in there for strain relief, let it cool enough, then put heatshrink on, and heat the whole thing with...

Re: Using bicycle's frame as heatsink for the Phaserunner

you guys are really overthinking this. if you run the phaserunner to the point that it needs such a big heatsink, it will eventually fail from its inability to shed the heat to the outer heatsink over time... its a tiny 6fet controller. The PR has a very good rollback mechanism, and as I understood...

Re: How to measure amps

well, as you know, you need to measure the voltage drop across the shunt to calculate amps. so what you need to do is measure this voltage. since the arduino measures 0 to Vcc (about 5v) it wont tell you much directly about the milivolts you're trying to measure. you need an op amp. I started to typ...

the magnet is very brittle and hard to re-connect once broken.
Wouldn't the two half just stick together? North pole to south.
its not strong enough to stay together that way inside your throttle. this isnt a very strong magnet.

Re: Short throw thumb throttle?

It's a little complicated to explain and not all throttles do it the same way. hall_effect_sensor_electric_scooter_cart_bicycle_how_it_works.png Basically, one end of the magnet is south and the other end is north. Right in the middle, the flux will be zero to the hall sensor. If you cut the magnet...

Re: Short throw thumb throttle?

When you cut a magnet shorter, one end is still south, one end is still north, and the middle is still the middle. right now the magnet starts with one pole over the sensor, and as it moves closer to the other pole it raises the signal voltage until it is right over the end and it is sending full th...

Re: Short throw thumb throttle?

ahh a hall throttle. not a pot based one. all you need to do is cut the magnet with a dremel and a cutoff wheel. that makes the electrical throw shorter. Then just add a screw in to stop it from going too far. The reason you use a screw instead of a hard stop is so you can adjust it with a multimeter.

Re: Short throw thumb throttle?

these type of throttles use gears to turn the pot inside.
you could always measure and buy or print gears for a different throw... then just add a throttle stop since it would reach its max limit sooner.

Re: I may be building an electric go-kart

ok then... will that be out of my budget? That depends on your budget and where you buy them. Most RC lipo is expensive, esp here in the US. Hobbyking lipo is the only cheap lipo I buy... that leads to this: Do you have any recommendations which batteries are safe, affordable(as you can get)? None....

I use a Fletcher designed circuit you can read here:

You can buy them premade as "anti-spark" switches from e skate shops too.

if its lipo pouches, either measure for replacements, or figure out what you can fit in the stock box.

why are you disconnecting and reconnecting the pack on a regular basis? add a charge connector to the bike, then leave the battery connected, just plug the bike in. the charge plug wont spark if the charger is on first... it will do a tiny one if it is not on. if you need it for an on/off switch, wh...

Re: I may be building an electric go-kart

Love the idea of a go kart. I can't speak to gear ratios. Those prismatic batteries are only good for 3 or 4C continuous discharge. So maybe 150A tops continuous. Which may be OK for your plans. I think they would get hammered on a race track. Any higher and you could be replacing them every season...
