Re: building a cargo e-bike for my kiddo
hi all, i want to get a bike like the one attached to transport my kid around. But theyre pretty heavy so i wanted to build it into an e-bike and wanted to get some input and recommendations for that purpose. Do you have any recommendations for type of motor to use for this? I read good things abou...

Re: Rear tire punctures
I've heard something similar about the front tire propping a nail. I haven't seen anything definitive but it seems plausible. I've considered mounting a powered rotating brush and a large magnet to the trike to occasionally clean the roads I frequent since bike lanes are the collection point of mos...

Re: idea for go-baby-go button
What is being said pretty much fits the bill, I'd just make it so whatever battery/controller combo you were using already could provide the maximum power you'd want without the unusual configuration. What I've used a lot of the time on electric bicycles are three speed switches that limit the maxim...

Re: actual 18650 cell anode end dimensions
I communicate with cell suppliers they say that the anode top is absolutely flush with the shrink wrap edge I wouldn't be surprised if I misunderstand, but I am saying that when they say this they might be referring to a flat top cell, the picture of the cell looks like a button top cell and a cell...

Re: actual 18650 cell anode end dimensions
Great question and one I've sort of asked myself. So far as I know there are two types of tops, button and flat. It honestly looks like that is an image of a protected cell or something, on the left or top of that cell there is a smaller segment of rectangle which might be a protection PCB, maybe a ...

Re: New Kelly FOC controller series
No. They can't. It's always sensored. Thanks for the response. How I understand it is the way FOC works is that it mostly uses the sensorless measurement back electrocmagnetic field (BEMF) for motor commutation. BEMF is supposed to be a very accurate and faster way to get rotor position. But, if a ...

Re: How to undo a stuck round thing?
For applying lots of torque to a round thing it's hard to beat a pair of Stilsons (pipe wrench). Great suggestion. To add to this, to gain or increase leverage a way to do is to lengthen the arm of the tool you use to apply force, this is often done easily with a piece of round or square steel tubi...

The magnets are nickel plated neodymium. A 1" stack - 15 magnets- shows no measurable resistance on my Klein ohmmeter.

Re: Most silent geared hub motor?
A large portion of the noise can be eliminated by using a Field-Oriented Controller instead of the usual ones... This makes a larger difference than one hub motor over the other. the loudest one on a FOC makes less motor noise than the quietest one on a trapezoidal controller. I did some direct com...

In normal use they will commonly see higher than the 64°C, and much higher for those running moderate to high performance. Plus common ebike hubbies don't even have axle seals. Is the 64°C limit a good number? I recommend against opening hubmotors any more than absolutely necessary, so can we re-gr...

Get them to guarantee some degree of capacity if possible. I totally and compl...
