Re: kWeld - "Next level" DIY battery spot welder

I have just received my welder, looks absolutely fantastic. Very impressed with the design, quality of the supplied hardware and components, the leads and probe tips look great. In addition the documentation is fantastic . This is an area often overlooked, but great doco is essential for a product o...

Re: Mid-mount Hubmonster Madass

Unfortunately you are using a hub motor so gearing is not an option. Your hub delivers the RPM's and torque it does until it runs out of KV's. A mid drive with a modded Peerless 700 transmission will give you both...speed and torque and do it for cheap. Shifter kart racers use this little transmiss...

So I am partialy a newb but if I bought Bitcoin in 2013 and held it and now I have both bitcoin cash and bitcoin SWEET!!! Anyways my question is if you put you Bitcoin on a paper wallet does this still count? Or did it need to be saved on an extange online? Mine was online and I was seeing bitcoin ...

I suggest you look into the segwit/lightning network and form your own opinions, I'm confident bitcoin will be around, but I'm much less confident it will be the current BTC chain. An amusing write up for the uninitiated: https://hackernoon.com/chapter-one-alice-and-bob-9fa315aeef62 If you held bitc...

Re: Bitcoins

We would see those prices if current rates of speculation were to continue, however I don't think it will for a couple reasons One, Bitcoin is currently broken. In 2013 I could send a transaction in minutes and it would cost <1c. Today to achieve the same confirmation time you may need to be *hundre...

Looks awesome John! Seems likely you'll beat me to it! I've now got my workshop somewhat set up, CNC up and running etc. Unfortunately still limited time to work on the bike, but have made a little more progress on the swingarm modifications. Need to do some routine maintenance on the daily ride how...

Re: Sur-Ron - New Mid drive Bike from China

On my bike around town I have only once managed to get a trip above 35wh/km. That's riding as fast as possible on road, 70-85km/h, full acceleration (~12kw) where ever possible. It would be a molten pile of slag if it actually *averaged* 65 wh/km. The city range will be substantially more than this....

Re: Sur-Ron - New Mid drive Bike from China

This thread needs more disassembly pics! Anybody got one of these things that they can pull apart and document? The frame, motor, drivetrain all looks great. Battery looks pretty good too, but odd cell choice - I'd definitely be replacing them with some Samsung 30q's - they're just better all round ...

Re: hub with 6 phase wires

I think what makes it special is the ability to run lots of power on cheaper controllers, which is less important with the modern generation of controllers, and the high efficiency due to the thin laminations, and the low phase to phase resistance keeping the heat losses down. So not just its raw p...

These things are very interesting. I really like a lot of the design choices.

First reaction to the test ride video, damn that's loud! Clearly doesn't have a sinewave motor controller. This paired with a better controller/72v battery would be great.

Lotus Lotus is not slippery, has limited to poor battery mounting options (see Tesla Roadster), and once the lotus goes much over design weight it handles relatively poorly. Luke - have you seen Sasha's Lotus Evora running Tesla drivetrain combined with two Volt packs? Built as a street/time attack...

Re: Wind and Solar vs Coal, Gasoline, Nuclear

Never??? How do you figure natural gas will never become scarce? There is no debating a huge dependence on gas heat and industry. Only 40% of gas is used for electricity right now. which won't go down the more peaking base load is pushed onto it. EIA states 90 years. I might guess 150 being optimis...

+1 for Hubsinks being awesome. These combined with Statorade on my QS 205 on the street has banished even the thought of heat issues. My ass or battery capacity (who would have thought 2.5kwh wasn't enough a few years ago!) is now the limiting factor. Thanks for the huge community contribution Sketc...

Amazing work Arlo! Once you CAD you never go back... Design is incredibly elegant! How are the driver boards going to integrate with the package?

Thumbs up for laser/waterjet cut bus bars. I might have missed it, are you going to have this one air cooled or integrate a waterjacket?

Re: Definitive Tests on the Heating and Cooling of Hub Motor

I ran my mini-e at 7.5kw for well over a year of daily riding, that was certainly about the limit for reliability however. My QS 205 3.5T killed it as it's a bit harder to drive and I was already right on the limit. The Adapttos are very difficult to establish correct timing on however, many people ...

Glad you came to your senses! I have one of these motors, they're incredibly good compared to most other hubs. Two Sabvotons or Kelly controllers and you can pretty easily run 20kw.

Re: hub with 6 phase wires

These motors are two three phase motors on a single stator, they're one tooth offset in timing and *WILL NOT RUN* on a single controller, don't even bother trying.

You need two controllers and they need to be connected to the right phase and hall pairings.

You need 10mm of hard steel that clamps to the axle on both sides. Anything less will be destroyed I can assure you. Crude oil isn't going to run out. It would, if we continued to use ever increasing quantities - but only in the same way that there's a finite amount of water in the oceans. Well that's pretty ridiculous comparing remaining oil to the ocean. There will be some oil stranded but you might as well say...

I would highly recommend you look at Fusion 360 rather than solidworks. I've found it substantially more intuitive, it's got really solid CAM as well as CAD and it's free for private use. Hell, even if you pay it's a subscription based model for $200 a year, much more reasonable than constantly buyi...
