Re: Power PCB for Lebowski Controller to be combined with Bobc's processor board

P1 silkscreen on the wrong side P3 and P5 are probably connected to chassis. There is exposed copper like 1mm away with battery voltage. Do those external dimensions fit nicely in an enclosure? extruded for example. I see no clearance on the edges to slide it into an extruded enclosure. board ID? ve...

Re: VESC-controller

This week I need to define some mechanical assembly stuff so next week I can get my hands on the control board and unblock that thread, many people are waiting for it. We also have a chinese new year coming which will delay the pcb assembly. The coolest builds come from customers because its a capit...

Re: VESC-controller

Hold on a bit of you can. This project is getting very very awesome and I'm spending a lot of time on it. A LOT. Just not posting news here until I have the new hardware working, its all about the wow factor. So far next version will have same mounting points and same schematic, but I need some chan...

These could save the day. Saved mine back in the day.

It constrains you to 1.6mm thick pcb though.

Re: Power PCB for Lebowski Controller to be combined with Bobc's processor board

Thats the one position I tried, gave DRC error.. Thats why you first define your assembly and mounting points and then you do layout  . I wish I could help you there. Don't you need through holes on the big terminals of the current sensors? Looks like you exposed the copper to use both lay...

Re: Power PCB for Lebowski Controller to be combined with Bobc's processor board

2 quick notes, one silly, one not. * looks like the current sensor footprint lacks the large thrugh hole pads. * Can you guys add a mounting point to the control board? if its only supported by a header you're looking for troubles, you want a screw in there, at least one like m.2 . Especially with w...

Re: Power PCB for Lebowski Controller to be combined with Bobc's processor board

By default you get 1.6mm thick pcbs, you can order a thinner pcb, like 1mm thick which will easily lower the inductance. 1mm is still pretty rigid. At 0.8mm you get some flex which may or may not affect you, depends on components weight but mostly in pcb mounting points.

Re: OSHW TO247 IGBT watercooled laminated half-bridge

Um, thats a cool IC. Can you order those from common suppliers?
The only thing I can see is worse than the TI chip is the common mode immunity, from the datasheet it makes it not suitable for driving SiC mosfets, and the ISO5852 is.
They have a good reputation, I'd trust that driver.

Re: OSHW TO247 IGBT watercooled laminated half-bridge

Thanks for the input AAC is implemented at asic level by the company that developed it so even though I have seen the whitepaper and I have here an AAC enabled driver, I'm not confident I can get such circuit working. Re: VESC-controller

I'd like to see a clear line in the top level showing where the isolation is. Like with a couple of clear blue lines showing the isolation. other than that I don't see any particular issue with the gate driver. About my half bridge (btw not the same as an H bridge) that PWM connection was very on pu...

Re: 144Vdc EV Charger

400V for the win.

And the age-old question... does size matter? Of course in the context of choosing the switching frequency. 20khz to avoid noise... 200khz to make it lightweight?

Glad to hear this thread might come back in 2018.

Re: Converting a controller from 48v to 72v

Its probably too difficult to do it right. But before trying, keep in mind that higher voltage means higher RPM, and exactly the same torque.
If you want more torque you need more amps or different gearing.

Re: VESC-controller

I can try designing an interface board. If you need another tester I could throw it into a motorcycle frame and put it through it's paces  I can try to help. If its quality work I can add it to the repo It would be cool if we could use induction motors, they're real cheap from any industrial s...

Welcome along! I think this motordrive would get the most benefit from testing. So far it has been under test in our lab, with a propeller load and in a very cool EV. There are some firmware and GUI tasks to do but I'm afraid if it takes you a week and benjamin commits it at the same time spending 1...

Re: VESC-controller

ENNOID, watch out, the wolfspeed schematic you took as a reference is intended for SiC drives, with very fast rise times. Take a very close look at your blanking capacitor, if you DNP it you could have the desat triggered because your IGBT is much slower than a SiC switch. 100pF is a reasonable valu...

Re: Current Sensors How to select a good one or roll your own.

Great to hear. 6 days ago I gently reminded Isabellenhuete about the shunt samples I asked for and after some checking they told me they will ship around christmas (ship to argentina). I'm not building pcbs until have samples in my hand. The samples I asked for are 2000A shunts that are not actually...

Re: VESC-controller

About your series gate resistors. I see you used a melf package, you need a non-inductive resistor and those are often wound which effectively makes them a coil, unless you order a more expensive non-inductive flavor that has half of the turns in one direction and the other half in the other directi...

Re: VESC-controller

Yes, you need to measure DC voltage. I used the same circuit for measuring phase voltage, and added it to the interface board. If you dont use an interface board you can make a little pcb and attach it to the bus bar, thats what I had planned to do. You can have that circuit in the gate driver as we...

Re: Time for MORE POWER! 1400a 1200v IGBT controller build!

That array of snubber-like dc link could have a tenth of the parasitic inductance if you could use a laminated bus bar.

The question is if that monster cares at all about a few nH of inductance. Depends on your rise times, I guess you have heatsinking room to switch it slower.

Its looking good!

Re: VESC-controller

I just cloned the repo, your infineon driver is an exact pin compatible part to my TI gate driver. You could use my exact same schematic and only replace that chip part#. The only difference is TI has separate OUTH/OUTL and infineons only has a single out, I'd short those pins (well I'd use the TI p...

Re: OSHW TO247 IGBT watercooled laminated half-bridge

About a gate overvoltage, if it happens the gate itself will turn on the switch and extinguish the overshoot that causes the gate overvoltage. The big chunk of silicon will handle that power better than the gate drive circuitry. I guess it could happen so fast that your switch doesn't react fast eno...
