Dirt cheap glass-covered fuses (AliExpress, 50 fuses for $1). This is from youtube "AveRage Joe" episode 31

Not a hijack, synch-ing sine waves is an issue concerning using a UPS for power, so...I say it's perfect for this thread. Keep the tips and links coming!

Re: 24V/48V UPS as an inverter for mini power-wall

Thanks everyone, for reminding me of those important concerns. One of the videos I watched (there were dozens, I don't remember exactly which one) mentioned that some UPS's synch-up the output, some don't. He pointed out a chip, that the UPS on his bench had, providing that function (if I understood...

Thanks for the input, Harold. kVA is a new term for me, similar to watts, but adjusted for the power factor? 3000-VA (3kilo-Volt/Amp) is an actual 2700W of load? http://searchdatacenter.techtarget.com/feature/How-do-I-figure-size-requirements-for-new-UPS-unit From what little I have gathered so far....

24V/48V UPS as an inverter for mini power-wall

edit: I'm probably going to go for the 48V UPS, but...here is the link to the 7S / 24V UPS lithium swap. One of the nice things about 24V is that you can find a 24V alternator, and also alter a 12V car alternator to output 24V, then run it with a lawn mower engine... https://youtu.be/OtBI_Dr2cII?t=2...

Re: under $250 solar system for emergency power

Thanks for posting this. I lived for years in the earthquake zone of southern California, I lost power for a few days in the brushfire zone of southwest Utah, and now I live in tornado alley, central USA, Kansas. I have pondered affordable basic systems. Once someone wants to build an off-grid syste...

Re: Super capacitors to save battery life?

The Tesla car has an eight year warranty to provide at least 80% of the new battery range, so they are doing something right. Even if you are unsure about which brand and model of 18650 cell to use, you can actually buy Tesla cells from a wrecked Tesla. Plenty of guys are buying the whole pack and t...

Whether you get an ebike-kit for a trike or not...you need to move as close as possible to your work. I would even go so far as to liquidate as many of your assets as possible, and use the money purchase a van to sleep in. Re: Large hydro ranch system

Large off-grid storage systems are not concerned with size and weight, so they have the widest variety of options. That being said, the owners do not typically want to experiment, no matter how "cutting edge" the new tech may be. I recently looked at doing lithium conversions for golf carts, and no ...

Re: MXUS 3K Turbo (V3) 45mm Direct Drive Hub Motor

The appropriate shape for a torque-arm is very dependent on the shape of the drop-outs on the bike you want to install a kit on. I have had very good luck using "big blue saw" as a water-jetting service. their proprietary CAD drawing program is very easy and intuitive to use, and once you are done, ...

Re: ☠ Heat Damage to Motors ☠

For quite a few years, the general ES rule-of-thumb has been to never allow the hottest part of the motor to get up to 200F / 93C Of course, if your motor is getting that hot, I personally believe you are wasting battery watts generating heat, because your motor is too small (or the volts are too lo...

Youtube Bruno tests Sunkko $290 709AD spot welder

Bruno Baccalari is a famous youtube personality. He just posted a video that compares a cheap 220V Sunkko 787A+ spot welder to the slightly more expensive 709AD unit. The result: The 709AD has a larger transformer plus an air-fan (2.4 inch, vs 1.8...62mm vs 48mm) The 709AD has a soldering iron funct...

Re: Cheapest e-components for 55mph?

At 55-MPH, using bicycle components will lead to either death, or being paralysed with enormous debt from medical bills. If was doing this, I'd use a QS 205 V3 rear hubmotor with aero fairing on the front at 20S battery voltage, or...with no aero fairings, I'd have to bump it up to a QS 273 with 50%...

I'd have to find the reference but...the reason Greenworks went to 80V is so they could use lower-current cells, which cost less. The cells are not bad cells, but...they are not high current.

Re: DIY battery pack for phone, tablet

The battery is not the issue. You need to source a DC/DC converter that takes an auxiliary battery pack and provides 5V for a mini-USB plug for smart phones and tablet devices. Of course, laptop computers use a variety of input voltages so a solution for those is not as simple. https://encrypted-tbn...
