Re: Battery problem, voltage but no current

New bms might not fix crapped out battery.

Charge full, and get it balanced before you decide its the bms. You might simply be so out of balance that one set of cells is nowhere near 2/3 charged. So the bms shuts it off as it is supposed to.

EM3ev is most likely to have the shark pack I think.

Other vendors in NA that ship legit batteries are Grin Technology, and E-Bikekit.

Re: Here is my nearly completed cruiser trike

Nice end results! Great vehicle for a place like Quartzite. Well done! Toying with the idea of building something like that, just for the grins of the build. For me it would be lower and longer, more like AW's trike but with the little cheap ass harbor freight generator. Kinda lost interest in ownin...

Re: Are my charged cells within ok range of balanced?

Of course lifepo4 looks balanced when not full. very flat discharge curve, so if you were out of balance about 10%, in the middle like that it looks perfect balanced. 20% or more different could only be .05v at that point on the discharge curve. Cool ideas for forcing balancing. I just suggest the r...

Re: Repair to bent rim. Advice and help pls

Loose spokes right out of the shop would not have me going back there, but on the other hand I built my first wheel at age 13, so no big deal for me. Never too late though. IMO if you ride hub wheels, you should at least learn to tighten up a loose wheel before it goes really bad, bends the rim, etc...

Re: advice on incompatible motor and hall connectors

Matching the motor would be nice, that's a good setup. Can you get the matching connectors from them?

If not, matching what is on your controller is easiest, since Grin does sell those all the time.

Re: opinions about this 500watt model & hill performance

It would work, it can climb 16% for awhile. But SF might have that grade a hill for a bit too long.

Get the mid drive, kit or complete bike, for SF.

Or do the 20" rear wheel, 5000w bike thing.

Re: Rescue Motor - Aotema (Wilderness Energy BD-36)

I see, I did not realize how much you tweaked the inputs to get those graphs. I just relied on 3000 miles of riding one for my opinions, with a temp monitor inside it after I fried the first one. They heat up crazy fast, like many brushed motors that don't have vents and fans. All I'm really trying ...

Re: Are my charged cells within ok range of balanced?

Keep repeating the process, till all high ones bleed down to 3.65, and the low ones at least come up to 3.5v and stay there after sitting overnight. Ride around the block to spoof the charger to restart, but wait till the bms bleeds those high cells down to 3.65 to do that. If they get to 3.5v off t...

Re: Repair to bent rim. Advice and help pls

You might do that, but its pretty clear that they don't know shit, and spent too much shop time on it trying to figure out lacing a motor wheel. Not tempting to let them touch it again. For starters though, a new wheel will loosen almost immediately from the motor torque, if cheap spokes were used. ...

Re: Rescue Motor - Aotema (Wilderness Energy BD-36)

Trouble is,, your charts are for a clyte 408, which is similar to the 407, WE brushless motor. This is not even close to similar to the brushed version of the WE (brushed aotema). Right out the gate, the brushed motor behaves very different under heavy load, building up heat a LOT faster. And even l...

Mostly the cold stopping that from happening right now. I've been riding a lot for winter, but prefer shorter rides even on the nice days. I take the one gallon cruise towards hatch along the river. About a 60 mile round trip with some nice curvy road. Or the long cut to Walmart, east to the organs,...

Re: E-bike restricted trail access and hate

Nothing worse to walk on, or ride if legal, than horse/mule trail.

They churn it up really bad, and if cut for pack mules, are too steep even for most hikers and backpackers to enjoy much. Most trail in the national forest is this type.

Re: Are my charged cells within ok range of balanced?

Id say it must be lifepo4. Re the balance after the ride, with lifepo4 in particular, there really is not much information to be gained by voltage at mid discharge, since the curve is so flat. If you have a bms, charge back up, wait half an hour for the bms to do any discharging it might do, then tr...

Re: Building many smaller A123 packs (NO BMS) and add them together

Yes it should work fine, if you plan on using a 6s RC charger for charging. Most have settings for lifepo4, NiCad, nimh, etc. You could also go with 8s packs if you wanted to, with an 8s charger. Re the lv beepers, some can be set to the lv warning of your choice. Many are 6s, but I think some are 8...

Re: Given 80 90 100 % what is the sweet spot?

For most of us, our needs are mostly two things. Battery small enough to afford, and battery small enough to carry. You bet, it would be great to charge to 4v, and stop at 20%, but to get very far you'd have to carry a huge, heavy, and more expensive to buy battery. Bear in mind, those nasa and mili...

On the other hand, if you could do a 200 mile charge in 30-45 min, that would work for pretty practical travel. Most folks will stop to eat at least every 200 miles.

Have to locate the charge station near someplace you would eat though, or have a cab ride that comes with the charge.

You get what you paid for, and that battery that burned my house was cheap.

On the bright side, since the fire ruined my kitchen stove, I have a nice battery bunker outside the garage now. I used to use my fireplace in the house for that, but the remodel removed that fireplace.

YEP, its your battery that is the problem. Bear in mind, you might be just beating a perfectly good battery to death, if your motor and controller are big enough. Sounds like they are gigantic. But more likely, something is not right in the battery. bad cell, or perhaps just a broken or poorly conne...

Many places let people who ride nice take lower power e bikes anywhere they want. In my town, I could attract a cop if ran stop signs at 40 mph, got hit, and was laying there bleeding. Otherwise, they got other issues to deal with. Even traffic cops need to concentrate on heavier and much deadlier v...
