Re: Standard formula for Calculating Ebike Range
20wh/mile is a nice benchmark, but 100wh/mile or more is just too much fun.

Re: My Wife Sold My Bike
As far as giving up one smoke belcher for another, I've got no interest. My car has remained parked for over a year now. I do have something nearly the size of the Indian in the works, but a bit lower and aerodynamically sleeker, and powered by 2 or possibly 3 HubMonsters (whatever it takes to flat...

Re: My Wife Sold My Bike
John, you might be able to embarrass a cruiser, but even with 5 hub monsters, you couldn't touch a zx10r that does 189 mph out of the showroom. 200mph+ with some cheap mods. I loved it but it's impractical for long road trips. 0-100mph sure it will. I have no interest in going faster until we get a...

Re: Is REGEN, really worth it ?
Bicycles that drag are a drag, is all. John rides motorcycles, and has different priorities. Any bike with a motor is technically a motorcycle, and anything you ride on with 2 inline wheels is technically a bicycle. If you want to talk about arbitrary legal definitions then it depends on where you ...

Re: Is REGEN, really worth it ?
Lets say you have a 20 mile commute using regen in the best conditions for it to be used, what is the max voltage input 1 can expect back into the battery ? 5% - 10% max ? Are there any negative aspects to using regen , as far as wear and tear on the motor, magnets, controller, battery ? "Best cond...

Re: My Wife Sold My Bike
The day my wife gets to "allow" me to do anything is the day I say "next" after she hits the curb. I do agree with "happy wife = happy life", but it takes happy me as well, and that means doing whatever I want. The key is finding one who's perfect happy with you doing whatever you want. As far as gi...

Re: Man Gets Hit and Run Over at Vigil for Cyclist who was hit an Run and Killed
Thank goodness we don't get that kind of aggressive behavior from cagers down here. There's enough idiots to avoid already, but for the most part they just line up waiting in traffic with plenty of space between for those of us on 2 wheels to safely get around efficiently time-wise. I love passing b...

Re: 8kw Enduro Frame Build
What's the true weight of the raw frame? The Amazon listing says 23kgs  , which can't be right since the shipping weight was less. That's definitely not the small square tubing based Enduro like sold by em3ev, which has tons of wasted space in the construction. This one looks cavernous inside...

Re: Advice please
While he said geared hubbie, don't forget he's done 10 years with lead and a crap brushed motor with many replacements. Take the full step and go with absolute reliability as an upgrade. So what if there's a 5-10lb weight penalty. Compared to his lead anchor there's still a big weight savings to enj...

Re: 8kw Enduro Frame Build
What's the brand and source for your Enduro frame? What is the weight of the frame with swingarm? It looks significantly different than the one I have in some good ways...primarily that it's a monocoque structure instead of square tubing based, and I like that for the space savings. To me tubing jus...

Re: Definitive Tests on the Heating and Cooling of Hub Motors
Part of this is due to the motor being less efficient at the lower speed ??? If you're pumping the controller's current limit into a motor, it doesn't matter at what point on the efficiency curve the motor is operating, does it? ie The copper losses are the same? If you add in the iron losses, then...

financial sense That term is where we differ in opinion. I would rather spend more and take the money away from the big corporations. The corporations are the problem, and they funnel money to the politicians to allow them to abuse the planet. A good example would be big pharma. Republican senators...

Re: Could Electric Bikes Be Killing Off America’s Car Addiction?
An electric car is not much greener than a combustion car. Unless it is half the weight and size, it is not a significative improvement. I think it's a pretty significant improvement in terms of energy and resource usage, but it's not a complete solution - just another step along the path to "bette...

Re: Could Electric Bikes Be Killing Off America’s Car Addiction?
Cagers and riders are mostly different animals. Hens would not fly to save their lives. I'm glad this animal changed its spots. I loved driving for over 30 years until the nonsensical traffic congestion where I lived 10 years ago made me start checking my watch to see if it was a good time to leave...

Re: Are ebrakes sufficient?
I've never heard of locking brake levers, so I need to look into that. Most of my ebikes require 2 cutoffs due to 2 controllers, so I do one with the rear brake handle and the other on a horn button. They're regen so I use them all the time and it's second nature in emergency braking. The switch on ...

Re: Are ebrakes sufficient?
Chalo, enough with this motorcycle crap. Anything with 2 wheels is commonly called a "bike" to hundreds of millions of people across the world. My point was only that at bicycle power levels, a fail-on throttle condition can easily be stopped with one normal brake and the battery disconnected with ...

Hmmmm. Now I gotta figure in a bigger battery bay for the aerodynamically sleek comfy recumbent I've been planning to establish one yet to be set record on a single charge, so I can use the same 2 wheeler to ride for 24hrs with 2 or 3 charge stops. My biggest issue would be the roads for a 24hr mar...

Re: Are ebrakes sufficient?
Now only poor people should have ebrake cutoffs if they have speed control only by a throttle. Why do you guys think that every controller made has wiring for ebrake cutoff? It's a damn good idea, and so easy. Anyone promoting otherwise isn't thinking through enough potential possible circumstances....
