Re: My Bafang Ultra Mountain Bike! Frey AM1000

For you guys that own a Ultra 1000 can you use the throttle and PAS at the same time. I know their's a big discussion on electricbike.com that the new BBSHD controllers are not able to use throttle and PAS at the same time. I'm working on a way to fix the BBSHD problem. Should know in a week or so.

Re: A2B Metro - www.ultramotor.com - Video Page4

I checked the programming software and I don't see any settings for throttle range. Some other controllers have this. So the old school way to fix the problem is to place a 500 ohm trimmer pot in series with the throttle ground wire. With the wheel off the ground, you start at zero and increase the ...

So I will just make sure and put a fuse inline with the jack I plug in so as to have over current protection.
That is a good idea.

Awesome testing! Having real-life numbers for the fail points is priceless.

Having some way to keep the dropouts from spreading seems like it would be good.

I apologize for being bitchy and helping to derail this topic. Just some of your posts could be taken as personal attacks on other members, which is not allowed and doesn't help anything. It sounds like "I'm right and you're wrong because I have 40 years of experience", which is not a valid argument...

Re: Battery charge port:

Yes. I have tried it and it works. The charge port can't handle a lot of current, but the pump takes less than 2A. There is no protection for low battery or over current using that port, but it shouldn't be a problem for the amount of time it takes to pump a tire.

Our chance last night evaporated before it hit the ground, so zero in the rain gauge. Back to sunny, warm weather, which I am ready for.

At 5.2 Wh/kg , it would need ~~ 700kg to give 3.55kWh capacity
I missed that. Well, I guess we can eliminate that possibility.

Re: Throttle Behavior

I managed to find a small Darlington transistor and tested it. 2N5308. With a 100k base resistor, it turns on right around 1.15v. This is pretty close to the desired point. I think ideally we want it to turn on at 0.95v to 1.0v. One other thought I has was if you are pedaling and hit the throttle, t...

Sorry for the interference, but isn't "Ludicrous" version just a Luna internal name for a controller where they switched out the shunt (and maybe also replaced aluminum case IIRC)?
Yes. It may also have a steel gear instead of the plastic one.

Re: A2B Metro - www.ultramotor.com - Video Page4

I'll have to find those settings on my old laptop. It might take me a while to dig them up. I think there is a setting for the throttle voltage but I don't recall having an issue with mine. Low throttle should be around 1.0v. If you see a setting for this in the programming, you want it to be lower....

Re: GOPED ESR750 Battery Question

A custom 18650 pack would be fairly easy for someone with the right tools.

I think you want your pack to be able to supply 50A maximum current, not 50Ahr capacity (two different things).

Re: Throttle Behavior

I should really try to do more testing, but I think a 100K trimmer would be better. Temperature drift might still be an issue since the controller heats up quite a bit as you ride, but I think it will be OK. When building, I recommend attaching the CCW leg of the pot to the ground side so that turni...

Re: Throttle Behavior

I used a 2N5550 I just happened to have lying around and simulated that part of the circuit on a breadboard. The single 100k base resistor will be pretty close, but I don't know the exact threshold where the PAS will inhibit. I know what a pain it can be to dial in a pot. One reason I like the 10 tu...

Re: Throttle Behavior

OK, good news on the testing. In reviewing the datasheet for the transistor, it seems the super simple circuit with one resistor might have issues with temperature drift. The first one with two resistors will be better in this respect. The easiest thing would be to use a 20k trimmer pot in place of ...

Re: GOPED ESR750 Battery Question

That battery is a little weak for the ESR750. Ad states 15A continuous. You should look for something that can do 50A. By replacing the lead bricks with lithium batteries, you could probably triple the range and reduce the weight quite a bit. What are the dimensions of the battery compartment? Or me...

This is all interesting to think about, but the reality will not be known until tested. Even with the best engineers and simulations, rockets require testing, and things don't always go as planned.

Re: My Sun Trip Bike, Back to Back Tandem Trike with Rowing Generator, Pedals, +Solar

Most MPPT controllers are made for stationary panels and have a really slow response to changes. This might be a problem for a moving bike. Maybe there's a way to speed up the response? If the panels are just run to the pack directly it will probably be rare they need to be disconnected due to full ...

Re: BBS02 contoller PCB parts replacement questions

Here's a picture of the area on an un-fried one. But it's a bad sign the inductor burned up. This generally means the voltage regulator was trying to feed full pack voltage into the 12v supply and something downstream fried, possibly including the 5v regulator. You could try replacing the parts, but...

I see blue. It should be possible to tap into the wire there. When I want to tap into a wire like that, I try to keep the copper intact and carefully cut the insulation in the desired spot, then just push the insulation back to expose some of the copper. Solder tap wire and tape. It might be a while...

I've seen a few people try them. The amp ratings given are generally exaggerated quite a bit. If you get one "rated" for about double what you want and use a cooling fan, it might work OK.
