Title search

Postby torqueon » Mon Jun 11, 2012 8:35 pm

Just bought a basket case 1977 moped for $60.00 for my next electric build, it has wheels and a frame that's about it. Turns out for this thing to be legal it needs to be registered, which means I need prove of ownership. I have no bill of sale nor title etc. I have been through this before with a old motorcycle I restored, a big time pain in the ass, time consuming and expensive.

So the question is how to make this simple, cheap and quick! In Colorado

Any ideas

I got a title for a car starting with just the car in New York State. No keys, no papers. Spent hours on the telephone with Motor Vehicles. The whole project took me a year.

Buy one or a scooter that is crashed up and already registered, cut the VIN# off of that frame and put it on the new one. Whatever you spend on the extra will be worth the time savings.

Hey thanks for the replies

Yup! the best bet is to scarp the one I have, and get one with a title

See if Colorado accepts a bonded title. That is how I got my old Honda registered in Tx.

I once got a 1971 Subaru (2 cyclinder 2 stroke 360cc 4 passenger car) for $50.00 with no title etc. After a ration of crap from a DMV clerk not to do that, she gave me the proper form and instructions to track down the regiestered owner and get them to sign off. The time consumming part was the owner didn't know what had happened to it and whether or not they wanted to sign off. They eventually did sign off.

That car was my first electric conversion in the early 1980's. It worked, but I never put it on the road. Gave it away to a co-workers kids that ended up playing with it on a farm for a few years.
