Dual Core !!! Yeah !

Talk about anything and everything here within reason.

Dual Core !!! Yeah !

Postby Ypedal » Tue May 12, 2009 9:16 pm

So my computer was starting to give me problems, old faithful P4 with 512mb of ram and 80 gb IDE hard drive got the job done.. However, a couple weeks ago we had a power outage and the system refused to boot when cold.. . I CANOT survive without a working reliable system.. considered replacing the power supply and going for another year but looking at what new systems cost these days..

I hit up www.ncix.com and ordered myself some parts !

The new case came with a low end 350w power supply, but a good power supply is always good to have, crosshair 400w should do nicely !

The other PS will go into my old P4 and serve as a download machine once i format it.

Ahh, PC building, my favorite pastime. It really saddens me you went for a 9500gt...
So many better cards (not just a little better, like 2-3x better) are available for just a little more money!

The HD 4770 from ATI is available for about $100. It is able to play virtually any game, with great video acceleration.

Looks like a nice setup.

Ck out Tiger Direct, and sign up for e-mail.(ya get e-mail deals) I just got a dual core mb with procceser, case, power supply, 1 gig memory, had a hd, bought a dvd burner, whole thing under $200.

Then I searched around and got the beta win7, cracked it, and good to go, nice setup.
48v 1000w Rear Brushless Hub(Cracked Rim)/ Switched to 36v 500w E-Bikekit 28" 9c 9x7 (performs the same)
Keywin 60/72v 45A controller/w CA(smoked big time) Replaced with Methods 100v monster
(8) Bosch 36v Fat packs 72v + 3 12sla 97v Hot off charge
30-40 mph cruise...has hit 50 (bike & trike)
Trike is done, got over 1200 miles update/2100+ miles studded snows for winter

Hehe, it's a lot better than what I have! So, to me, it's impressive (Unless he is trying to play the modern 3d games). My video system comes from the integrated graphics chip from a 2004 mobo and the cpu is an AMD budget model chip from 2002. Oh yeah, I'm able to watch movies.

LOL, that's how the old eMachine I'm trying (by "trying" I mean waiting around until I get the motivation to look up outdated parts on eBay...think I'll go do that now...) to rebuild for my sister did it. Video and sound were both built into the board. It died two years into service. Won't even boot to BIOS.

Result = 874.8.

And that is with a x1950 pro that I bought two years ago for $109.

I just upgraded my mobo, processor (7750) and ram (4gb) though.

I also overclocked my processor to 3ghz which helped with my score.

Lol..

Re-ran the test with all apps closed.. got 804.4 this time !

Either way, i'm totally happy with this machine, compared to my other system it's a 2x increase in performance, copying pictures from my digital camera and running dreamwaver is alot more fun with half the hourglass time !

Backing up my old hard drive data is being a PITA however, that poor HD is on it's last leg, i thought it was the power supply that was crapping out but it's not.. the hard drive is the culprit.. i slaved it to my new box and made the system slow down to a crawl, took 10 minutes to boot and i could not get to the IDE drive to copy my stuff over.. Plugged it back into the old box and it did the reboot over and over and over again.. 45 minutes of this and it finally kicked in and booted up .. am transfering my stuff to a USB external drive now and will shut it down for the last time tonight.

It's great to start clean once in a while.. like a new girlfriend.. all fresh and new. :P

Except for my favorite photo editing program not working with vista, I like my new computer fine. Allmost lost my 700 cd's in I tunes, but got them back.

Helpfull trick, if your hard drive dies and won't run, freeze the computer for awhile, take it out and try to boot it up. It Worked! and I was able to transfer my music files to another hard drive. I had about 200 cd's in there with no back up since my storage hard drive was full.

The new machine was a bit expensive, $500, but compared to my first computer that cost two grand and had 128 of ram and a 10 gig hard drive this one is a bargain. Quad core amd chip and 2 gig of ram, another gig of ram in the graphics card. It would crunch photos real nice if my #&%&(&^$$ program ran on vista! Programs install scary fast on this thing. 8)

349.1

Dual core Atom 1.6GHz, 2GB DDR and the horrific G945 chipset.

On the positive side, it sips about 33 watts out of the wall max so the little laptop brick is slightly warm to the touch. Time to download the overclocking BIOS to bump the memory speed from 533MHz to 667MHz? This will also push the dual-core Atom from 1.6GHz to 2.0GHz...hmmmmm.
