We don't have Fry's or Staples here and I hate it! There is no competition
We did get a Harbor Freight this year though, so that was nice.
Nearest Staples is 40 miles away and the only road to that town shares a tiny shoulder lane with 60mph traffic. But if I ever can figure out how to charge my ebike over there, I'm going for it someday!
Nearest Fry's is hundreds of miles away so an ebike trip is just never going to happen unless 100ah packs start becoming a penny a watt.
Sooooo, you're in a podunk? It seems Staples is everywhere
in the United States( meaning cities larger than 100,00ish people). But Fry's seems pretty rare - I've only seen them near large population centers, such as Seattle and most of SoCal to southern parts of NoCal. It's definitely one of the advantages of living near a large population center is that theoretically almost all goods are locally available... if you can find them.
(Exceptions being relatively rare or specialized products - including many e-bike hubs, for example, and many microchips and quite a few seemingly critical electronic components at Fry's. But what they do have IS AMAZING for a retail store - Staples is nowhere near as complete and varied as Fry's is, and you're definitely not going to find electronics components there and other related gadgetry. As far as retail stores go, I really have a hard time thinking of an alternative source within the US. Sure, there's radioshack, but they're *incredibly* limited - They don't even stock crystals, a critical component to many radios! If anybody knows of a good electronics components store in the US, let me know. )
