Need smooth starting in chain/belt driven situation?

Postby VoKuS » Fri Jun 08, 2012 4:42 pm

Is it possible to have a smooth staring direct current motor in a chain/belt driven situation?

Luke's Agni Powered BMX jerks from a start, while his brushless powered bmx is very smooth even from a start and low speed.

Can a smooth start be achieved with an agni or similar brushed motor.

I want to build a torque monster thats smooth with out the insane jerky rips that try to trow you off...

You just need to setup the controller so that it doesnt' "slam" on. "Slow Start" is what this is often called. Sometimes it's done using an resistor/capacitor (RC) circuit on the throttle input, so the throttle is forced to ramp up voltage rather than suddenly change.

Could also be done with current feedback from the motor drivers, so that if current changes too much at once it throttles back the power.

A good controller that gives you pulse width modulation will give you a smooth start, I am way over kill with a perm 132 motor that is a brush motor, a curtis dc controller will give smooth control for any motor that I have used it with.
