Ordered it from ebay...
I got it mainly because i want to do some night riding in the forest and use my gopro... iv also got x4 long lcd strips on my front forks

But i thought it was a good deal as i was just looking at good quality lights in a mtb mag, 1000 lumen for like $999, they did look nice where the ones from ebay do look cheaper but ill be happy if i get 2000 lumens and the unit doesn't break ! i could easily hook up a beefy lipo to it as its only 8.4 volts @ 6.4 ah, prob need to charge it b4 most long rides.

I like the Cree XML T6 handlebar/helmet light in the see what other people are watching section on the bottom of the page. A pair of those babies, one on the handlebar and the other on the helmet, would do a great job for me, would just need to pack an extension cord with 3 female end for at work charging. I hope when my current lights give out (handlebar one is 20 year old Cat Eye held together with elastic bands) they are still available. I really like the "approaching train effect" a helmet light gives as well as having illumination where I'm looking at all times.

There's nothing wrong with a strong forward facing light on a bike, but a more useful direction of output is backwards (with the color of red). The light being discussed is unnecessarily bright for that application.
ImageFor a back facing light, I'm using a Harbor Freight LED flashlight covered with red lens-repair tape. I use plastic ties to secure it to the rack, in which I drilled 2 holes, above the rear wheel. It's a practical, cheap setup.

There is truth to what you are saying, but you would have to be aiming it at them, which would be difficult if they were approaching from behind.
However, I can imagine useful situations. Once they have passed you, after throwing a beer bottle at you, you could illuminate your target with the light being discussed.

What I wish is that people would make bike lights with an actual safe beam pattern, like that which car headlights use. A good beam pattern places the light on the road, and not in a giant cone that blinds those facing it even if they're on the third story balcony of an apartment building the bike is passing. ;)

Doesn't magicshine offer a traffic-friendly lens?

They do indeed - it shapes the beam so it is a flat line, rather than a cone - you stop getting high-beamed by oncoming traffic, and you can actually see.
New evil decided - GNG offroad build on Craftworks DHR with 12S4P lipo. Aim - Light, balanced, powerful, able to climb a tree.
Project Vectrix restarted. Status - BMS + Charge control redesign (read faffing with batteries again)

Also some of the replacement lenses are plastic. I've had two of the original, glass lenses break. Not good.
1st build: Dahon Jetstream folding bike. Quick, reliable, capable of 30mph. Light enough to lift, folds for easy transport by car/bus/train.
2nd build: RC powered 2009 Norco A-Line. Top speed 31mph. Built like a tank, it's resistant to Boston potholes, can stop on a dime, easily goes up/down curbs when necessary.
3rd build (just started): Scratch build ultimate utility bike.

my light arrived yesterday,
its pretty damm good, the casing is all aluminium, took it out last night on a short 1 hour off road ride, the light started to get flat, orange light came on
but it really works well on the road, i can avoid all the potholes that i could never see before.

Just bought the same.

Do you know if it could work on a 12V converter? I prefer to use it directly from my bike battery to simplify everything

These lights work with 3s and are a bit brighter too at that voltage. Made a 2s3p 18650 pack and run a bootleg and real magicshine in series after taking out the dc-dc converters.
Another option is the bootleg MJ-872 that can be had for 39 bucks for just the head on Ebay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/320916424459?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649#ht_4536wt_1198

Not yet because i hate playing around with small wiring,
i think it may be a simple fix, like a loose wire... the main light, the back actually unscrews..

Be careful with the charger to.. i used on hand to unplug it, the charger housing came off and i touched open wires and got a nasty shock that left my arm sore for 2 days..

It was really good while it lasted,
When i used it, the cable was really tight because i did not install it properly, so maybe it was my own stupid fault.
The lights looks perfect.

I actually just ordered a 8000 lumen torch !

I don't get torch because they are too long to fit on a handlebar. And also because they usually haveca very strong focus on one point only.

Hey man,

I opened the bike light up and found the problem...
Its really simple to fix, 4 wires got pulled from the pcb because they are ultra small wires..

What id sugest that when you put this light on your bike,
Make sure the cables never get pulled or any tension on them,
If it happens its an easy fix tho.. Just need steady hands because the wires are stupidly small

Here is a vid of a pair of those bootleg MagicShine MJ-872 LED lights from ebay, along with a pair of Magicshine 808. I light them up at around 36 seconds into the vid. And around 5:15 into the vid you can see how it lights up the street.

Guys, I managed to snap completely the wire from the led by mistake :(
Image

I have now 3 colour:
- 2 red
- 1 brown

And I tried to open the light but can't see anywhere I can reconnect the wire:
Image

Anyone knows where to reconnect that?

Thanks :)
