I own an X-treme XB-600 scooter. It's time to replace the rear brake shoes. Anyone know the dimensions of the stock shoes? I'm interested in an off-the-shelf product for several reasons: 1) it's far cheaper than the stock parts 2) the quality of most off the shelf components are far superior, quality wise, to the original. Not to mention, X-treme no longer sells the XB-600 rear brake parts. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Well, this is difficult. http://manuals.monstermotorscooter.com/XB-600-explode-diagram.pdf Sorry, but YOU have the bike, you have to provide us with dimensions.

Might this be right? https://electricscooterparts.com/drumbrakes.html If you just want to try something 3rd party, you might have to improvise a little. I'll say don't mess around much when it comes to brakes. I remember college and trying to reline the brakes when someone was broke. The results were unimpressive.

The X-Treme website has it, but yeah, pricey. http://www.x-tremescooters.net/products/parts/Mjk=/xb600-electric-bicycle.php

So, I'll let you in on a worst kept secret: So many of these Chinese parts are KNOCKOFFS. Common on scooters are the Honda brakes for the CRF50/XR50. Look familiar? http://scooterpartsunlimited.com/dirt-pit-bike-front-rear-wheel-brake-shoe-drum-hub-for-50cc-honda-crf50-xr50/ Or they may have been a knockoff of something else.

But you'll need to figure this out for yourself, I'm not finding a reference to it.

Thanks Dauntless. I'm still looking for an off-the-shelf rear brakes for the XB-600. I'll post here if I find a compatible product. Cheers.

The problem is you're NOT looking for off the shelf brakes, as you've mentioned they're not on the shelf anymore unless you want to pay big. There might be compatible products, but you're going to have to find them the way I mentioned. Or pay their price. Remember there's no guarantee that what you'll come up with is even as good, let alone so much better as you expect.

That's overwhelmingly likely to be a band brake. Band brakes are units; you don't replace just the band, and they don't have shoes as such. Fortunately, band brakes are super cheap and almost universally interchangeable. I'd say get the biggest one you have room for.

It's actually a full on drum brake with two semi circular pads that push outward onto the braking surface...

If the drum inside diameter is 70mm, you can use a brake plate from a Sturmey Archer drum hub. These are available as replacement parts.

Voltron is correct. The stock rear brakes are drum brakes. One of my brake shoes has worn down to the steel mounting plate. Wish I had measured the shoes, last time I had the rear motor off. Hate to disassemble the rear wheel, just to take measurements of the brake shoes....

It only works when there's pad surface left, but when it gets a little squeal going, I open it up and file off the glaze that forms on the shoes.
