Most super safe bike locks become a joke for thieves over time. Sooner or later they figure out how to open it within seconds.

A new generation of bike security items is on its way to the market.
https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/skunklock-the-only-bike-lock-that-fights-back-bicycle#/ skunklock has chemicals, very difficult to cut, has a key though...that's usually the weak spot.
https://www.kickstarter.com/project...-made-of-high-tech-textiles?ref=project_tweet tex-lock old school method revisited. Time will tell how safe it is.
http://www.hiplok.com/airlok airlok. for community garages, not suitable for many ebikes.
https://noke.com/pages/ulock Nokē looks primising
https://linkalock.com/ linka, i love this concept.
http://deeperlock.com/ deeper lock, pretty much the same
http://www.ilockit.bike/ ilockit, the european version of that concept. Dunno which was the first on this field.
https://altorlocks.com/ Altor, new shape.
https://www.amazon.com/RockBros-Theft-Chain-Folding-Hamburg/dp/B00MN52JP4 rockbros hamburg. curious shape
https://es.aliexpress.com/store/pro...lgo_pvid=3c7d44cd-f390-4a31-8d54-3d48cb1a0e93 aliexpress option
https://seatylock.com/ seatylock, begins pretecting the seat then the bike.
https://www.litelok.com/ litelok, new materials
https://www.kickstarter.com/project...nterlocktm-the-lock-that-hides-inside-of-your interlock, requires changing some parts
there is many other options that require that you buy the entire bike, not interesting for many of us since we plan to change parts(lost guarantee) or über expensive gps systems that would make me prefer my bike stolen than paying that much.

Best just to buy a Kryptonite NYC Forgetaboutit lock, and have a bicycle that does not stick out, and upon closer look is ugly.

Yeah but that video is staged just so you know.

That U-Lock is good because it needs to be cut twice taking a total of approx. 2 minutes maybe 3 minutes.
Now with a hydraulic rebar cutter, who knows how long that would take. Or for that matter a manual long ass arm rebar cutter.

I think the future is motion detection that send info right to your cell phone, whether it be the lock or the bicycle itself.

Your only option to prevent the bike being stolen is to have it in a secure location. Locks and immobilizing devices are inherently flawed since 100% of all locks can be destructively defeated in seconds with the right tools and immobilized bikes can just be picked up and put in a vehicle. Tracking devices are intrinsically flawed too since they can be found and removed or just jammed.

Also that skunklock is the dumb dumb dumb I have one word for them: liability. Those guys will get sued out of existence if this goes to market. It's probably also guaranteed to not be 50 state legal.

I saw a $4000+ commercial ebike locked in front of Walmart on the bike lock racks today with your basic average sized cable lock.

When your ebike is stolen you need a great medication witch a great dose of thief prank!!

I agree but i don't think the thieves care at all about the chemicals. They go for the fastest method, usually the key lock is the weak point. As soon as they know how to break it that thing is done for.
I watched a tv show time ago. They brought a real thief. He stated to be able to defeat any security system in under 10 seconds, he opened in front of the camera many locks in around 5 seconds each. Of course nowadays it wouldn't be so fast yet doable anyway.
The interviewer asked:
-How can we be safe from you? what makes you stop?
-If i want a specific vehicle i will have it no matter how you protect it. If i can't get it in seconds i'll put it in a truck and run away. There's nothing you can do about it.
If i want "whatever" i go for the easiest one so "one second will save your vehicle" if it takes one second more than the next one i will not steal yours.
I guess no system is the ultimate protection but the more difficult the better.
