Hey Guys,

I need to replace a 10AWG wire with a flat copper strip no wider than 1cm.
The question is, what thickness do I need in order to have the same conductivity as a 10AWG wire?
* 10AWG silicone wire (the one with the many many fibers that are thick yet very bendy)

Engineers occasionally use a square cross-section of copper to spec the current, because that is a constant regardless of the shape of odd-shaped conductors. 10-ga is 2.59mm diameter, and 5.26mm squared of copper cross-section.

http://www.engineersedge.com/copper_wire.htm

A square cross-section copper rod of 5.26mm in area, is roughly 2.3mm X 2.3mm (tall and wide)

So...5.26mm divided by "X" width will equal the correct thickness.

5.26 / 10mm (1 cm) = 0.52mm thick

Now that you know that, 5.26 / 1.0mm thick equals 5.3mm wide.
