Ive been reading here for a few weeks gathering info. I didnt see too much that was all inclusive about what i want to do.
I saw the 2 other vespa conversion, seems bunch of info left out.

Goals/Needs
-10" hub motor (space reasons)
-45mph top speed continuous (min)
-40-50 realistic mile range (min)

seems easiest planning is copy another. i found this bike and if specs are legit seems the way to go?

Battery 72v - 30AH
Recommendation on decent brand? Dont really want to make one this large myself, i see interesting cells on batteryhookup.

Welcome to the ES forum!

I've got a scooter that does 44Mph and goes about 25 miles on one charge, battery is a 72V 30Ah Lg Chem.
I recommend 45Ah or more.
You can't go wrong with a QS motor, capable of much more than what it's rated at.
Good luck with your build.

My scooter

Guess Kelly controller really isint in Texas? I figured I would ask a shop my questions, def not the answers I was looking for lol.
......

The 10" motor has 1-2KW version.
Which motor are you using?
You want to do 72km/h.
https://kellycontroller.com/shop/brushless-hub-motor-10in/
You can use 72V 6KW 10" hub motor.
You may use our KLS7245H controller for the motor.
https://kellycontroller.com/shop/kls-h/

As of the batteries, you may ask for the help from the batteries supplier.
Please provide the controller specification for them.

Thanks,
Fany

No, they are a Chinese company, asking them for advice isn't really recommended.
You'll have more luck with QS motors at least.

Here is what I've got in my scooter:

It does need a fan to cool it though since it is hidden near the battery.

Battery... make one or get one made

You have this QS motor? How big is your scooter and speed etc?

Just read my first post, all the info is there.

QS....

10inch 4000W Hub Motor 55H V3 Type: USD279
Kelly Controller KLS7245N: USD250
Twist throttle: USD4
Disc brake kits: USD25
72v battery

That's a good idea.

Wonder how much a bms and charger would be.

Saw the giant machined swing arm on here, I'll prob opt for something like this I found on Google images IMG_20200120_123313.jpg

Very hard yo find a reasonable bolt on solution for leaf bms, and not too much on using standard bms.

Anyone know?

Found this post. Some good info if I can wade through the randomness.

I had the same problem trying to find a suitable BMS for my scooter a few years ago. So I made this, not a BMS but more of a LVA/HVA. Low voltage and high voltage alarm using 4 Cellogs 8M. It's been working for me.

That looks cool!
What cells?

Reading other posts, appears I need a contactor.

This one up to the task?

Vdubjim, I have completed a 1961 Vespa VBB project with a 52v 28.5 Ah battery from Luna cycle and a 3Kw QS motor. It has a top speed of 54Kph, or 32mph, and I've been riding it for a little over a year. You can read about my project at Modern Vespa (I'm not sure the Vespa community is ready to embrace an electric Vespa, but...) : http://modernvespa.com/forum/topic163759. I'd post more pictures if I could figure out how.

Although this scooter performs exactly as I intended, I am currently in pursuit of more speed. So I am rebuilding this machine with a 72v 24.5Ah battery from Em3ev, and a 4kw QS motor. This rebuild will require moving some components around and I think it will take me another month or two to finish. I will report my test results when I get it finished.

Lastly, since I've done it, I might be able to offer some insights for your project. I've learned so much from this forum, and I'd like to help others. Let me know how I can help you with your project.
