GIO 500w InHub Delta/Wye disaster!

Postby sulihakh » Sun Jun 17, 2012 8:30 am

So I did the delta why mod in the hub of the motor and had it working. I went to take it for a spin and about 2 meters into my ride I heard some rattling noises coming from inside the hub. I took of the wheel and opened it only to find all the relays had been disconnected and the hall sensors ripped out. I don't know what to do now, wiring the relays back together isn't much of a problem. The main problem is the hall sensors, I don't know where they go or what to do now. Can someone suggest to me what would be the best move? The bike is brand new and its been sitting down for 2 months already :(.

Stator and magnets seems to be touching, not good - axle bent or something?

The axle isn't bent, I barely even use this. I thought it was a bit close when I went in the first time, but it seemed to run smooth after I re-assembled it :S.

i used to think in terms of having the relays inside too, but the risk of something coming loose and jamming the wheel at speed seems like a big risk now.

i noticed you are using small appliance lamp cord for your wiring too, it may not withstand the temps inside the hub.

maybe you were lucky and just have to replace the halls and rewire it to wye again.

dr bass put his relays outside the hub so this was never an issue.

I might have to do that :(
I really wanted the option of having delta/wye, in fact that's one of the main purposes of me getting this e-scooter, so I could speed things up. It seems like its impossible to fit 6 phase wires through the axle to do the delta/wye outside of the hub...

Does anyone know the exact model of hall sensors used so I can replace them? An EBay link would be great.

Could anyone help me with the hall effect sensors? I would like to find out what the specs for the hall sensors are (voltage, temp..etc). Thanks!
