Was thinking about kfong's uber-cool boards, but these are quite a bit cheaper and I can use some the lights in my VW bus restoration project... swivel lights for reading etc. Why not.

I can confirm the "404" code for free shipping. If you get to the end of checkout and already specified shipping (ground), click on the shopping cart to go back and enter the code. Also, if you order $99 or more, standard ground shipping is free.

I don't know how much longer this deal will last. In the past, it is usually only 3 or 4 days and then goes back to $49.99 so hop on it if you want to get in on this price.

I decided to get 8 of kfong's interface boards. 1 complete one as a template, and 7 bare boards to practice my soldering I think I read somewhere that there was some sort of issue with using the floodlights...maybe something about them drawing less than 28v, or the interface has a limitation that needs to be overcome. However, I ordered the floodlights to test that theory out. I figure they will come in handy for fishing/camping and general emergency situations since I will have plenty of 28v batteries now

Interesting. I was just planning on using the direct +/- spades in the flashlight housing and gutting the rest and letting the pack BMS cutoff at it's normal voltage etc. If there is some sort of circuitry in the flashlight I'll gut that also, but you're making me realize that I should go buy just one locally to make sure before I order a bunch. Maybe lyen will chime in with his experiences with his 36v flashlight build. Going with a 2s4p so if the 25A max on the 28v is true as per kfongs experiments that's 100A sustained... I won't go over 40-50A sustained during my commute, but I've seen bursts up to 100A-ish so that was my target peak. I already have visions of how I'm going to mount these all to my old hardtail frame.

Oh... forgot to mention that the 8 V28s I just ordered will also power my VW bus at night so I can watch movies, listen to music, stay warm with electric heat etc. Going to go 4s2p in the bus.. 'bout 106v.. and just run that DC straight into a power strip and trust all the various "wallwarts" to step-down as they need. We'll see how that works. Ha!

8 packs arrived this morning. 7 @ 26.3v and 1 @ 26.2v. I'm totally cool with those resting voltages. Got 8 DC9000 chargers on the way for super cheap.. love ebay (sometimes). "1hr" charging until those start not working and then at least I have backups. When everything stops charging I sell the chargers, bust open the packs and buy a BMS for it and keep using the cells for (hopefully) several years at least. Haha.

Interesting...the 28v packs aren't even listed on toolking's site anymore (instead of being listed as out of stock). You must of cleaned them out!

Yeah that sounds about right.. got the chargers for $13/ea with about $40 shipping. Seemed worth it overall. When all is said and done with the flashlights etc. I'll be at like $1.25/wh for my whole setup, which is actually pretty darn pricey, but it's for a dead-simple plug-n-play 52v100A capable system so that's worth it to me since I'm done tinkering and wanna just RIDE 1,000s of miles this summer.

I got my dewalt packs today from toolking. They're all sealed in individual blister packs.

I also got my chargers from nationwide tool for $20 each. Today they're listed as $19. Shipping is only $8.99 per order, so I ordered 3 chargers for a total of about $64.

They're listed as new, but don't come with any packaging or instructions, just a clear plastic bag. Cosmetically, they look new or like-new for the most part, however the contacts on the chargers appear to have usage marks on them.

well you wont believe what happened to me, i registered on 18th, grabed 5 packs, went to checkout and pay it was canceled because of unmatched addresses of my paypal and shipping address, so i re-registered in few minuts, grabed 5 packs again, pressed checkout and to pay and they gone out of stock ! !! aaaaaA wtf, my best luck late by 1-2 minuts, what a bummer !

Price back up to $49.99 as of 4/20/10. I keep seeing references that DeWalt will no longer be using A123 cells and that these are the last of the easy to get packs. The next time they come up for sale cheap, I would jump on it if you want them.

What cells though? If they aren't the Sony/Konion Vs or VTs they are probably much lower C rate generic crap cells.

Toolking.com doesn't even list 28v DeWalts packs any more.

I think they're lying about that. If you look in the large image of the pack you can see 2.2 Ah printed on the pack...

This link (http://dewaltownersgroup.com/index.php?topic=204.0) claims Samsung INR18650 13Q Cells or the E-Moli IMR-18650E Cells but I'm not sure what a "refurbished" pack would have in it.

Oh ok, good enough for me. I don't really mind anyways as long as these little packs have some on board cell monitoring/management...or don't need it. I've heard from Doc that the konions in the bosch packs don't really need management, so I think I might go that route. It seems cheaper than many options and more reliable.

@Doc- Do you know what discharge rates the bosch fatpacks can handle? ...or if you could maybe point me in the direction of the fat-pack thread if there is one? I .... questions but I think I decided to go a tool-pack route!

Why would you go this route when you can get a 48V 20ah LiFePo4 for $250~$300 +$166 shipping from HK in less than a week? This also includes the BMS and 5 amp charger!

We do it because many of us have gone the Chinese duct tape 18650 route and found lots of problems with them. Primarily, the problems of reliability and power output. The Sony/Konions are much higher quality, and can put out gobs of power, and use fewer cells which minimizes troubleshooting issues of trying to figure out which of the hundreds of 18650s used in these duct tape packs are bad. Have you ever taken a duct-tape pack apart? It's not for the faint of heart.
