72V / 55A BMC Scooter project

[McDesign]

Working on this now to learn about brushless motors. Frame and swing arm are done; seat, bars this weekend.

Jackal is cool! Spendy, tho' . . .

Here's a frame weldment detail - I'm happy with the strength and stiffness. I think if I do it again, I'll lighten up the gauges - I just used what I had this first one.

Had fun with this today on my day off - I love the look of the twin discs on the front - have to figure how to pin the right side to prevent rotation -

The wheels are just what I have dozens of - need some?

Got the boy out of bed just now for a "fitting" with the bars and seat - he digs the racy crouch. He wants rear pegs as well, back on the swing arm. Hmmmm . . .

Wow, congrats on moving the project from vapor to steel so fast! That is gonna be one cool ride when you are done. Love the dual rear shocks. Have you given any thought to possibly angling the bottom of the battery box at the front from the sides and the bottom? Two inches of 45 degrees (or possibly 3 or 4 inch radius at the front) just to give the box a chance to jump over a root or an ankle a chance to glance off the front edge of the battery box? I caught the front edge of my mower deck on a root and would up out in front of the tractor at about 10 mph and it was very abrupt Not to mention having to roll out from in front of the running tractor and mower. Seems the only safety equiptment on an early 6N Ford tractor is between the operators ears(fail).

Nice project & engineering! Also like the sporty shocks!!!

I am thinking about doing sort of the same thing in the near future but I will use an existing scooter frame. I was planning on using a decent rear hub motor in which case you dont have to worry about mounting the motor to the frame. So a question rises to my mind... why are you using a DC motor with a transmission instead of an easy hubmotor?

This motor is AC - the 1500W BMC from the SuperKids with a Chrystalyte controller.

As an engineer., I'm philosophically opposed to hub-motors.

Ah - you misunderstand me, mon ami!

I spent lots of time in Dijon and around Burgundy several years ago with another job. The French engineers and I had a great time bashing our respective "stereotyped" engineering cultures.

There's a great book about the Chunnel (called Chunnel, IIRC) that really delineates the great differences in approaches between French and English engineering.

Then we would go out for great food and wine.

Still in pieces, ; never built the battery box.

Now I'm thinking the motor will go into a go-cart - might finish up and let that frame go for a song.

Forest, that is some amazing work. Beautiful in fact. I had got caught up in my old job and then trying to re-start my race team that I had missed a lot of posts on this site. I'm glad this one got bumped and I got the chance to see it.
