Aha...I was looking for a nice long lead! (me cuts lead of the old electric strimmer). :D

The bike will be painted in shocking lime green, with awfull clashing red lettering....just so it can be noticed at the EV rally's when your there with the Varadero

THe Perm is definitly more powerfull than the Mars motor, but of course has a higherprice tag too! What you really want Drew, is one of Todd's AC motors
Mazda MX-5. 300KW power. Soliton 1 controller, 11" Kostov motor, 20KW/H Turnigy Lipo for 60-100 miles range. 120mph top speed.
Hudson Kindred Spirit 3 wheeler. Twin Agni setup, 300KG 80KW. 100mph top speed (maybe more, but no-one has the guts to try!)
Aprilia RS125, Agni motor, 600A 96v Kelly controller, 6kw/h Turnigy pack.

Brushed vs Brushless

Postby evmotorcycle.org » Fri Mar 07, 2008 7:49 am

Tesla use a brushless motor and that is superfast. Do you guys reckon the brushless motor will be a quick as the brushed eTek version?

Ha ha AC is the way to go… If I open the door and listen real hard I reckon I can hear the sound of a sweet little RGV 250 piston seizing @ 17,000rpm! A potential future AC powered RGV mega track bike.

Malcolm, how you reckon one of these would look with a smoked perspex fairing encased AC induction motor?

There seem to be problems finding a controller for the brushless Etek that can match the original in power.

Also, that would look very sexy 8).

I can't remember. Somewhere around 60mph, depending on gearing.
You could ask Todd at Electric Motorsport. He built that one.

The AC induction motor is extremely smooth and quiet. It also has a much wider rpm range than a permanent magnet motor, so one gear works well.

I think it peaks at over 40 HP and his E1 (R1 conversion) I believe was good for over 80MPH...

Teh Video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7k94cUd0HoQ
Still trying to get the camera angle right, but time to start posting vids.
Unfortionatly, by the time youtube have done there bit the LCD Cycle Analyst cant be read (on the original file it could), but top speed was 60mph. The bike was using 110 wh/mile being abused like this, 80-90wh/mile is more usual on a longer run.

Enjoy

"By George it's ELECTRIC!"

Very cool 8)

Also, I love the 'L' plate taped to the screen. Can you do your CBT on an electric motorcycle?

Is that an original composition on the second video?

Cheers,

CBT can be done on electric, the final test maybe you wouldnt be qualified for geared bikes if you did that on a nonegeared bike...

Music courtesy of the great Pharoah Sanders...I've heard just about enough loudrockpopmusic on EV vids. Next time i'll put some of the immortal Thelonious Monk

Nice Joz Very Nice

Really looks great man, you are a bad man, I was scouring the pages of e-bay looking for sports bikes with broken engines last night!! I think the sports bike approach is better than the moto x approach, the fairing will help greatly with the efficiency as will the tires and the weight.

Oh and DC I also had an RD125LC in blue! with red wheels!! I have loads of bits for them in my shed at my mums house, there are quite a few of them on ebay going cheap, dont know if there is much room in one for a conversion but I must say it would be nice, however I still love that powerband and the smell of 2 stroke (esp castrol R) Joz will kill me for this!! ha ha, but If one came up for the right price I may be tempted, I have a Lemco motor that would slip in there nicely!! just need the batts thats the kicker though!! The RS is kind of like the modern day RD really, Joz has made a rather desirable rig there and he does it so blooming quickly.

Joz If you can post some off bike video that would be great, good luck with the bike test if you get round to it, I did mine in 1987!! on an RD125LC!! ha ha

Cheers

Thanks Paul, you'r not tempted by this one then? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ducati-748-track- ... dZViewItem

I had one an X7 in my day, can't believe the current price on ebay! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1979-Suzuki-X7-25 ... dZViewItem

I'll do a video "introduction" to the bike sooner or later...maybe later when its painted though. I'ts very tatty ATM, and i'm just starting work preping the fairing/tank for respray. I got the local Wurth rep to give me demo of his plastic welding kit today, and before I let him go he had repaired all the broken bits on the bike
I dont know about quick, I sweated over it for 2 months, yet there really isn't all that much too it. In fact, it was a little too easy, i've already run out of things to twiddle and rewire!
I'm trying to get a deal supplying Electromobikes to a london courier company, if that works out I'll be doing a whole lot more this year!

Truth is, i'm a bit old to ride an RS, or any other sportsbike...I wonder how light I can make a Ducati ST2?

Hi Joz

Ha ha yes saw that one!! there are quite a few on the auto trader web site as well, very dangerous, the kicker is the batts though, also I have a nice big gasser that I hardly use, an electric motorbike would be cool!! be great to see the bike when it is all done, plastic welder? sounds cool! the bike looks tatty but it goes well, like sally gunnel looks bad but is a good runner! ha ha.

Looking forward to seeing the next video, what you working on next then? how is the KMX? still using it? I havent ridden mine for ages, must get out and have a go once the weather picks up.

Cheers

Still using one KMX (its great to nip out for sandwiches and stuff, and late night runs back from gigs), lent another to a friend and converted him to trikes:)
The Jozzbike is getting most miles on it for the moment.
I've got an x5 I need to experiment with, it's looking like that will go in a 20" KMX ST for some more trike fun. I'm interested in putting it head to head against the Puma to see how they fare..

I know the auction is finished now, but a Ducati 748 would be a bad choice for electric conversion. This is because they are so heavy! And that's not all just down to the heavy old twin cylinder engine.

Don't get me wrong, I love Ducatis (and currently own 2), but the 748 is specifically known as being a bit of a heavy pig when compared to Japanese sportsbikes of the same era.
