No offers yet Deec, and it would be a VERY reluctant sale!:P

Nice Joz Very Nice

Really looks great man, you are a bad man, I was scouring the pages of e-bay looking for sports bikes with broken engines last night!! I think the sports bike approach is better than the moto x approach, the fairing will help greatly with the efficiency as will the tires and the weight.

Oh and DC I also had an RD125LC in blue! with red wheels!! I have loads of bits for them in my shed at my mums house, there are quite a few of them on ebay going cheap, dont know if there is much room in one for a conversion but I must say it would be nice, however I still love that powerband and the smell of 2 stroke (esp castrol R) Joz will kill me for this!! ha ha, but If one came up for the right price I may be tempted, I have a Lemco motor that would slip in there nicely!! just need the batts thats the kicker though!! The RS is kind of like the modern day RD really, Joz has made a rather desirable rig there and he does it so blooming quickly.

Joz If you can post some off bike video that would be great, good luck with the bike test if you get round to it, I did mine in 1987!! on an RD125LC!! ha ha

Cheers

Thanks Paul, you'r not tempted by this one then? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ducati-748-track- ... dZViewItem

I had one an X7 in my day, can't believe the current price on ebay! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1979-Suzuki-X7-25 ... dZViewItem

I'll do a video "introduction" to the bike sooner or later...maybe later when its painted though. I'ts very tatty ATM, and i'm just starting work preping the fairing/tank for respray. I got the local Wurth rep to give me demo of his plastic welding kit today, and before I let him go he had repaired all the broken bits on the bike
I dont know about quick, I sweated over it for 2 months, yet there really isn't all that much too it. In fact, it was a little too easy, i've already run out of things to twiddle and rewire!
I'm trying to get a deal supplying Electromobikes to a london courier company, if that works out I'll be doing a whole lot more this year!

Truth is, i'm a bit old to ride an RS, or any other sportsbike...I wonder how light I can make a Ducati ST2?

Hi Joz

Ha ha yes saw that one!! there are quite a few on the auto trader web site as well, very dangerous, the kicker is the batts though, also I have a nice big gasser that I hardly use, an electric motorbike would be cool!! be great to see the bike when it is all done, plastic welder? sounds cool! the bike looks tatty but it goes well, like sally gunnel looks bad but is a good runner! ha ha.

Looking forward to seeing the next video, what you working on next then? how is the KMX? still using it? I havent ridden mine for ages, must get out and have a go once the weather picks up.

Cheers

Still using one KMX (its great to nip out for sandwiches and stuff, and late night runs back from gigs), lent another to a friend and converted him to trikes:)
The Jozzbike is getting most miles on it for the moment.
I've got an x5 I need to experiment with, it's looking like that will go in a 20" KMX ST for some more trike fun. I'm interested in putting it head to head against the Puma to see how they fare..

I know the auction is finished now, but a Ducati 748 would be a bad choice for electric conversion. This is because they are so heavy! And that's not all just down to the heavy old twin cylinder engine.

Don't get me wrong, I love Ducatis (and currently own 2), but the 748 is specifically known as being a bit of a heavy pig when compared to Japanese sportsbikes of the same era.

Hehe, there will be no "sorry m8, I didn't see you coming!" thats for sure.
Not Green and black I'm afraid, the wheels and decals are going to be in Brightest Red, just to go for maximum sickie value. The seat will get recovered in the same red (the orange looks a bit "off"). I'm seriously thinking of splashing "JOZZBIKE" up the side and keeping "her" forever, but then, I'm also seriously thinking of making a lowrider chopper too. THere will also be some advertising for my little business. I reckon Aprilia lucked out on me putting aprilia logo's on it when they negleted to offer an electric version of the RS alongside the petrol hungry/piston eating 2 stroke version! (if anyone from Aprilia reads this, I would reconsider my position given the right sponsorship:P)
I may be geting my hands on a nuvinci hub this month too...I'm wondering how I could use it. I don't fancy a spoked rear wheel on an aprilia, so I guess it would have to go "inline" somehow. It would really make the bike special to have twice the torque at takoff, and 30% higher top speed (with a carefull eye on motortemps). WHeelies and 100mph top speed = superJOZZbike?

Paintwork is not quite finished either, the green has just had a basecoat, it will look much better still, and much glossier after another topcoat and a few layers of laquer. Reckon I'll be keeping sunglasses in my pocket this summer :P

Love the green. Red sounds like a striking matching colour (Spelled it wrong just for you English chaps :). I was actually thinking of the same colors for my Suzuki.

Tell me more about the Davinci. Do they make a larger one that can handle motorcycle type power? Cost? Availability? If it is anything like the bicycle one it should be easy enough to fit one into a motorcycle rim of choice with a bit of machining and welding.

Yes I'd like to know more about the Nuvinci/Davinci. I've thought about using it in-line as well. If you set it up so that most of the gear reduction takes place between the Nuvinci and rear sprocket then it should be OK for torque, I think... I believe they're also planning a larger version specifically for EV use, but I've no idea when that's due.

Yes, its the LEV version I have been offered, but it seems to come with 32 spoke bicycle type spokeholes, I'm not at all sure it would stand being in a MC wheel. It is specced as being good for 130NM though, which is about right. ALl i've seen so far is the spec sheet, but I'll definitly get one to play with and let you know what I can manage to do with it!

That's odd
If you compare the bicycle and LEV pdfs on the Nuvinci website, they use the same model number and have identical drawings:

Some numbers for you... Just got back from a great 30.5 mile ride, hit 79.5 mph! Ran it up to 75 several times, did some town riding too, a general mix of everyday riding with a frew grins on the way. Overall I got 95 wh/mile. I noticed that to hold 70mph took 100A with tailwind, 120A with the same strenght headwind.
36A used, 2630 watt hours that means average voltage was 73v (24 series lifebatt/A123 mix). THe lighting would have used another 1.5AH, so pretty close to the 40AH max, and still a little juice left to play with:) I'm chuffed, these batteries do exactly what they say they will:)
Oh, and had a chance to try accelerration against a stock RS125 too along the way, poor fellow couldn't quite keep up. When he caught me at a traffic light in town he asked "where did you have it tuned, and how did they make it so quiet?"

Of course you can have a blast on it Deec, but I warn you you wont want to leave without it, best bring a trailer with you

They arn't making it easy for us to get cells Malc:( I dont rightly know where the next batch will have to come from. Looks like thundersky's are the only people willing to sell us bare cells.

Yeah, I've been hunting around myself lately but there's very little information about the few cells that are available, apart from Thundersky, like you say. I really want the high-rate cells (10C discharge/3C charge+), but don't like the idea of paying a premium for modular packs and then having to strip them down. I want to put together a 30Ah 72V pack. I've just bought a couple of 30A 36V Curtis chargers off eBay, so together that should give me a 25-mile range from a pack I can recharge within an hour. That should cover most of my needs.
