I had plenty of time to ogle one with the split crankcase this summer at Vancouver's annual cruiser race, the "Little 100". It wasn't competing

Mens bikes from the previous decades went into the scrap drives and ended up in tanks and planes, ships and artillery pieces.

The ladies bikes were spared because they were being ridden to the factories. Rosie the Riveter wasn't out bombing around on her Whizzer by trading sugar rations for gasoline. It was mostly the overseers (men) who got the Whizzers.

It wasn't competing but did make a few laps.
