PM Stuck in Outbox

Post by stiffi » Jan 22, 2010 5:38 am

Can somebody tell me why ceratain Private Messages are stuck in my Outbox? I have 2 to one user that are just stuck there. They are replies to a previous message.

I've sent other new and reply messages since the time I tried to send the "stuck" ones.

I'm lost.

They remain in your Outbox until the recipient opens his Inbox..... So, it looks like the person hasn't logged in and looked at his PMs

Private Messages How to send them

Post by NeilP » Dec 07, 2010 3:05 am

No, I know that sounds a stupid question, but

When i send any they see to stay in the Outbox, even after the Submit button has been clicked.

Some seem to have ended up in the Sent items folder, while others ( that I have not had replies too) are still stuck in the Outbox.

Anyone explain? is the forum PM system having problems? or is it me?

Thanks

Neil

The message sits in the 'outbox' until the person you have sent it to opens it and reads it, at which time it moves from 'outbox' to 'sent messages'

Why are PMs taking so long to get sent?

Post by Zenid » Mar 29, 2011 10:00 am

I'm trying to contact people via PM, but my messages just sit around for hours before getting sent.

I 'sent' one THREE HOURS AGO and it's still just sitting there in my damn "OUTBOX" WTF is going on??? :x

Correct.. as soon as the recipient reads it it will go from your outbox to sent-items.

Oh! I see

But that kind of makes "outbox" a non-sequitar, as that implies that they are GOING to be sent, but are actually still sitting around in - well - your outbox :?

I believe PMs stay in the outbox, until the intended recipient reads them. You can edit the message and even delete it...up until the moment the recipient reads it.

Thanks spinningmagnets, thought it worked like Email, where it goes to outbox then straight to sent items as soon as its sent.
Didn't notice the difference when i sent the first PM.

I see you have a low post count and are asking about PM's

A word of warning.
Many of the regulars are actively ignoring PM's from newbs as most often questions are better asked in the open forum so there can be more input and other can benefit from the questions. Also the regulars ore often overwelmed by many PM's.

There is generally very little reason to use PM's, please use the forum instead.

Ricky_nz thanks for your reply, but the PM method was advised by the other forum member as a way to gain information about a purchase, I don't normally use PM's which is why I asked the question in the first place, if I have questions to ask or answer I will of course use the forum to do so.

PM: Difference between "Outbox" and "Sent"???

Post by SamTexas » Jul 12, 2011 8:18 am

After composing a Private Message (PM), I hit the "Submit" button. Seconds later I was informed that "The message has been sent".

Yet the message is actually in the "Outbox" and not in the "Sent" box. Some time later (mins or hours), the message disappears from "Outbox" and reappears in "Sent". So, what exactly triggers the transition from one to the other box?

Thanks,

Opening the PM by the recipient changes the message status.

Thanks. So "Outbox" is a misnomer! No wonder so many people (myself included) are confused.

PM outbox messages?

Post by itchynackers » Aug 03, 2012 6:17 am

I've been trying to PM a member, but the messages just seem to sit in my outbox. Is there anything I need to do to get them to send? In the past, I just hit submit and they go. Now, they don't seem to go anywhere.

Thanks,
Adam
