I'm looking for a cheap but quiet power supply.

I've found a 600W pc power supply here:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Envizage-600W ... 1979wt_982

Would that work with the hyperion? And how should I reanrrange the output cables to fit the hyperion?

You'll want 24v and 600w continuous.

+ 12v will not give you the full power ( more like 200-300w ) of the charger.
+ PC power supplies are not rated on their continuous power. They often deliver less than half of what they are rated.

2 x server supplies with their fans tuned down would be good.. and cheap as hell :). Can find them for $15-$20 a pop shipped on eBay..

Do you think this one would work?

Chinese power supply with no brand name or model.
Looks like it might be a distant meanwell ripoff. You get to be the guinea pig and find out if it's gonna blow up on you or not

Yes that is how my trike is set up now, and the handling is excellent, If I put a single 12s pack on the rear rack it really handles poorly.

I've played with it a bit but at the moment I dont have any batteries to charge with it that are useful. My pings are both 12S but I need to make a6Sx2 adapter for them. The Fatpacks in // self balance and have no taps on them. I really got it for the A123 20 AH batt I am building. I will start with my 15 volt 24 amp power supply and see what happens. 3-4 amps is fine for me to charge with for36 volts batts. I don need no steenking 24 volt power supplies! ( I hope). I did power it up and went through some of the menus but I am kinda lazy this week!

The 1420i can do 550watts Output (it's printed on the front face of the charger). That probably translates to about 600watts INPUT. So it will use only what it needs (600watts) from your 1000watt PS.

Also note that the 1420i operates on up to 29volts INPUT. So don't limit yourself to just 24volt PS. If you can find a PS with 29volts output cheaper you can use it with the 1420i as well.

That is why I bought one, 999! It was that or some BMS that I doubt would definitely work. I've had good luck with Ping's BMS but this seems like a more versatile and reliable way to charge. Welcome to "the Science Fair for A123"!

Yea I went last years science fair and built a konion pack that I still have. I looked at the Hyperion and saw the Hyperion sentry for 13usd. on sale from 26usd or is there a reason for this ?. I guess they have a newer model. Will this be a better opion then the 8s celllog from H.K.

I have 2 working Celllogs that seem to be OK. Hyperion seems to make good products but I have never used the device that you mention. What was your SF project with the Konions,999?

I got 55 used 18v 3.0ah makita packs 550 cells. Found a long nose 10mm trox or I would still be drilling those suckers. So learned a lot of how to talk to batteries. Yes like plants you have to talk to your batteries. So 18s or 180 cells, and they can take the amps, but a little low on ah. So now I like the big format of the A123 two 12s with 6s balance wires for a 24s and will fit my bike. So maybe a second Hyperion 14s charger. But if I think the sentry has a cell balance mode ? O.k. I order a 1420 & 4 sentry @ 13.85usd ea. For a total of 228.52usd with shipping. Does Hyperion use jst for balance connections ? I need to order 6s balance wires for the 18s kokion's and 24s A123 today. Does Hyperion have there own plug stlye ? Good place ? The H.K. have color wires ( good ) and ebuddy has better connectors, but out of 6s jst. Noob. And more noob questions.

They should have in your Hyperion box their connectors (not Jst-xh) and a board that is JST-xh and another type ( that is 2 boards each type) The 2 Jst should be plug in with the JST-Xh board connectors to go to the battery. Usually BPBuddy is fairly quick about resupply but I called them when the website said it was out of 6S JST and they said they had plenty of them. Don't forget to order those little plastic strain relief gizmos that they sell also. Cheap and effective! Now if I can only figure out how the charger works.........Oh yeah, I need to build a battery!

Yea great dealing with aircraft-world.com . They said they had a little web site over load. I think it was me. The japanese have much honor in my book. They got all in one box. And acted as their mistake. Can they sale a cheap battery like China ? My batteries are waiting.

Well I finally got a chance to use my Hyperion! Pretty mundane actually. My lawn tractor would not start and I couldn't find a 12 v charger so................ I fusssed with the menus and soldered the battery clips and ........ Yep sure enough! It will charge a 12 volt battery, Pb of course. Success! I seems to hold it at about 1.5 amps charge rate and it says it will go to a 13.8V float rate. Way cool. Of course i don't know if this battery will hold a charge, but at least the charger works! One small step for me..............

Yes I wanted to buy a 6s lipo just so I could charge it. But I'm very scared that if I cross that lipo fire line I could never go back. Seeing the way it has infected some on E.S.
