I bought 2 5000 mAh 22.2V (6S) 10C Coyote lipos from leaderhobby.

I put them in series and ran my bike (9fet Lyen into a 9X7 NC motor) at 30 to 40 Amps coming off the battery (6C to 8C).

As I recall, I observed a large voltage drop ( 1O or more volts) and significant heating of the packs. I did a rough estimate of internal resistance and came up with around 200 milliohms for each of the lipos packs. At 2A, discharge they do deliver close to 5000 mah.

They don't have the punch that I would like. I would recommend lipos from another vendor.

PS Cell voltages were typical lipo - 4.2 V at full charge. 3.0 V below the edge of the cliff.

3.0v nominal would be a characteristic of some odd chemistry i've never heard of.
Cells coming from 2.99v to 3.7v stored is bad news.

6p of 5ah = 30ah... that *should* take forever to balance, so that's not a fault of the batteries.

We need some discharge graphs out of a proper balancing charger.

I've got a Hyperion 1420I charger, but I've never used it for anything except charging. Don't know if it's capable of graphs or not. I'm not sure if I ever read the instructions.

That's actually not too far off with how 20C lipo will respond. Run 10AH and you'll halve your voltage sag. Run 20AH and you will cut that number by 1/4th.

I ran 42a on 5AH of 20C lipo ( zippy ) for a while and it ran like crap too. 4-5 volt drop at 8C-9C on a 20C battery... significant heating.. lost amp hours.. etc.

Always always run batteries at less than 1/2 their discharge rating if you want them to live. 1/4th the C rate or less is even better.

Given the quality of the unknown brand lipo, I would play it safe and only draw 50% of rated C meaning 25Amps at most. Looks like you really need to get more cells in parallel to fully test these lipo. Not doubt these are far from the nanotech quality, but for a cheap battery solution, it might serve well.

either an unlabeled unit, or battery medic imitation. But for $10, it may be worth the gamble..

There is some serious buying going on, from 10+ to -40 in 2 days! Also few batteries I was looking are negative stock now. I wonder if ES members have something to do with that.

Looks like they hiked the price up to over $27 now.

With the low C rating how would 4 run in parallel (20ah, 22V) cope with a 500W cyclone motor setup (can use all the bikes gears), especially going up hills?

Well, I'm running mine as 18s2p for 10ah 66v and haven't had a problem with a 40A controller. 20ah would be rated fro 200A, so I wouldn't worry about it unless your controller pulls more than 100A.

As I posted in an earlier reply, I had a problem using their shopping cart. I notified them, and, got a response within 24 hours. The woman asked what my problem was. I just copied and pasted the original comment. She said to try again. I did, no luck. I Went to the Haiyin site, and, same problem.

I ended up using Hobby King in the states. My Son did the order for me, and will mail batteries to me.

What I wanted to relay here, was, The same woman responded, trying to be helpful, a total of 3 times. She asked if the information she wrote to me was correct, AND, offered me a few $$$ off of their sale price, and excellent shipping rates, If I was still interested.

If I hadn't already made the purchase elsewhere, I would have done her deal.

THIS Is how WE did business for over 18 years in our Manufacturing business. I don't know how good their batteries are, BUT, everyone here has comments about bad business practices. Why not give these folks a REAL try ???????????? They have 2 warehouses in the USA, Miami and another that I can't remember right offhand. They have motors, and kits for models and possible connectors, that my Son could NOT buy from the USA Hobby King warehouse. ?????????

Just my worthless 2 cents for all y'all.

Hi Harold, thanks for the info.
Have you tried different browsers? I have problems with specific sites on specific browsers. Have tried few, and have Mozilla and Chrome now, can deal with every site in at least 1 of those 2.

I'm pretty sure the sites pick up my IP address. They put me straight to China, instead of letting me place the order in the USA, and ship to my Son, in Fl.

harold: are you referring to leadershobby or the haiyin store ..?

I had no problem with leadershobby.com .. they do have kind of a funky cart system tho. Like hobbyking's setup, but not customized.

Didn't get a tracking # within 2 days, so i sent an email asking if it was backordered etc.
Got an email reply from them saying that it did ship out, with a tracking #.. but said # does not work just yet.

I asked if they would restock this battery because if my tests are good, i will order a handful of these and start recommending them as well. I got this response:

"Yes , the battery is out of stock now.
But I think we'll have it when you make your next order."

I suppose that's a good sign.
Will keep yall updated..

Hi, if you're looking to buy from leaderhobby, let's test their referral system to see if it works.

When you join them, you can put in a referral email address, so if you're willing, put in:
andrew@my-syte.com

It's a miserable 1% as far as I can see, but at least we can then report back to state whether it works or not!

If enough referrals come in to cover a purchase, we could put up an item purchase as a prize.

I went to Leader Hobby after getting cart errors on the Haiyin Store site. Then, I had problems on the Leader Hobby Site, so, I went back to the Haiyin Site. Had emails From Eric from Haiyin Site, trying to help, but, still no go, So, that's when I got the email from Penelope at Leader Hobby Site, offering a little discount for my troubles. Seems to me, if they have good batteries, their communication from Penelope is trying to help customers.

The raising of the prices, I believe, is because the sale prices had expired. They were only for a couple of days, before we all went there.

By then, I bought from Hobby King.

Another deal on there that looks really good.

https://www.leaderhobby.com/product.asp?ID=9394001223818 which is a Transmetric 4S 10000mah battery 10C cont 20C burst for only $41. That means you could get a 12S 10AH (arguably the most common lipo setup) battery for $120 with a 100amp constant, 200amp burst discharge rating. If the specification is true then that is on par with my 12S zippy pack that cost me $260.

Just waiting to see what the guinney pigs come back with and then i might pull the trigger on a few packs myself (once the website registration page is working again).

Update;

Apparently they send their batteries through a service called 'swiss post Singapore'
The tracking number now works & the battery is on it's way out of Asia.
Apparently this is coming via air. ( that's why the shipping is $$ )

IMHO- It seems like another of the many companies that buy the "does-not-meet-standards-for-b-stock" cells made by HobbyKing, or the guys that buy the huge lots of years old LiPo cell for various applications that didn't sell, and re-badge it. You see them on ebay all the time.

No factories I've visited are even actively even making cells with such low performance, and most have warehouses full of old 1st generation stuff collecting dust.

The 3v cliff and weight are 100% indicators of being 1st gen LiPo. Be extremely careful with over-charge, or poking a cell. Lots of 1st gen formulas couldn't do 100cycles under good conditions, so be sure to spend some time testing before you make a large purchase.

Yep. I've toured it. Had meetings with the engineering team, had tea with the chemist that created the Nano-Tech chemistry. Old news. I will be in China again next week and might stop by for a visit again if I have time. Nice factory, and freaking HUGE, most brands of RC cell get made there, even the ones that bash hobbyking the most. lol

i called and emailed batteryspace many many times about that particular NCM cell they have listed, they can't give me a price on it or any details!! That cell you linked on ienergy doesn't seem to match what batteryspace is selling. I believe the batteryspace offering might be EIG stuff.

Luke: i do plan on testing the living daylights out of the li-Mn stuff i am recieving. It's interesting stuff because i've never seen such high energy density larger format >1C stuff for sale *anywhere*..

If it turns out to be decent, i will order the motherload and use it for the pike's peak run. I need 30-40ah of 72v so the cost savings would be nice.

I just need to find out a way to rapidly cycle it. Can the iCharger line do the 'cycle' function with regenerative discharge?
