How do I get a meanwell to run off 72VDC?

Postby flexy » Tue May 01, 2012 2:36 pm

I need to step my 72V pack voltage down to 48V, to run the lights and switchgear on my E-max 110s scooter

see http://www.endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=38617.

I bought a 48V 2A meanwell supply for this purpose, but it won't show any signs of life when fed from my pack (79V)

Are there any mods I can do to get it working?

Unfortunatly, this is a dual voltage supply (ie. 120/240, hence the switch).

The switch forms a voltage doubler with the caps and bridge rectified when fed with 120V AC - If you can find a dedicated 110V supply (or true multivoltage supply - ie. no switch to change between the two) you may have far better luck. Probably avoid PFC supplies as they often have 'brown-out' protection that may trip to protect the supply.

Thanks for the info , the nearest I found so far is this

Do you think it might work?

Rated with that range, I would be pretty confident that it would.

LED lighting rated probably means it is current limited as well, which is useful.
