Please help me find a replacement cell

Postby HeyOK » Wed May 30, 2012 9:02 am

I'm very new to electric bicycles, but I have had lots of experience with LiPo batteries as I am quite active in the RC hobby.

My friend recently bought his first ebike and one of the batteries it came with wouldn't work. Took it apart and found that one cell is bad. One cell measures close to zero volts. All the other cells measure close to 4.2 volts.

If someone can tell me where I might be able to purchase a replacement cell, I would really appreciate it. Also, do you happen to know what sort of capacity and C rating these cells have?

The approximate size of the cells:
140mm x 130mm x 12mm

Here are some pictures. The first one is the cell by itself. The next ones show the pack as it was disassembled.

Thank you in advance for any help!

He bought it in Vancouver, BC.

It appears to be made put together from odds and ends. I was told that It has a Crystalyte 500 watt motor on the front and not sure what was on the back.

Can anyone help? I can't be the first to actually want to replace a bad cell in a pack.

We replace cells all the time. It's just that 95% of us use Hobbyking Lipo which uses a different size cell.

I have a few 3AH Lipo cells. I think I will make sure they are balanced and connect them in parallel and use them to replace that cell. My guess is that the bad cell was about 10AH so this might get me in the ball park.

Thanks for speaking up.
