ian.mich wrote:sure you can get a cheap ammeter, but would you really want one? the voltmeter is fine because it carries no power, but when i'm out on the road dumping 6kw, i dont want some ten dollar chinese circuitry to go pop. go to hobbyking and get a meter with 12g wiring

I believe that's why migueralliart specified an external shunt - use the wire gauge you desire and the meter carries essentially no power...

i ordered mine on july 19th, and it just got here today. so a bit over 3 weeks. now im waiting for the $15 wattmeter to come in from the same seller.

Thanks, it looks like I may have another week to wait, but I'm also waiting for some other parts also maybe I'll take bets on which parts arrive first. ;)

If only I could find a similar AMP meter with external shunt and with the same voltage range that doesn't require power. I could integrate it into the plastic enclosure and it will be perfect for any low budget build.

Nice idea with the DIY thread. Right now my handlebars are a total mess due to having so many things mounted, and wires are everywhere. Maybe getting wider bars would be an idea, but even so a thread with other people's setups would be to use as inspiration.

Also if you need an amp meter with remote shunt, consider going for the turnigy watt meter with the remote shunt mod. I think Jeremy Harris posted a thread on how he managed to do it, it works well as you don't need a separate power supply, you just run 3 wires to your bars and you get volts, amps, watts.
