Help me assemble SLA battery

Postby Henry111 » Sun Aug 05, 2012 3:09 pm

I have one of those fabric ebike battery bags designed to hold a 35 volt SLA battery, and I want to assemble the battery using three 12 volt batteries which I will connect in series to arrive at 36 volts.
Please advise me as to what 12 volt batteries to buy--what type and where to purchase?
Thank you for you help.

You need to indicate how many amphours you want.

Try searching for UB12120 for 12AH, or UB12150 for 15AH. Look for a 1 year guarantee of brand new batteries and free shipping for the easiest comparison, or find the total including shipping for three. Try to find a local source so you can test the batteries before you buy, which will also make a return easier; and pick them up yourself to save shipping. Measure the inside of the pack to be sure 3 will fit. If my pack holds up that's what I probably will do when mine give out.

Locally i see SLA available in 7.5, 12, 17Ah batteries.
You want the AGM type. Deep Cycle or traction battery I think.

3 x 17Ah is getting pretty heavy. Not the sort of thing I'd buy thru the post.
Maybe add your location to your profile if you want "where to buy" info.

Cheers,
Greg

Look at everyones post and note their location. Now look at your post. See a difference? This is a worldwide forum. Without knowing where you are located it's hard to recommend anything except you don't want to buy any battery with lead in it.

I agree on more inomation on all members profiles.

Stop hiding and let us know.

Some are proud and some are not about where they live, Who cares, it's to better the forum and help the ones that ask for help.

It sure would be nice to know where we are all located, ON THIS WORLD.
Fill in your profile. It doesn't hurt.
I know some worry about being found.
I wish someone would find me.

Well, wherever you are, there are two likely places in your town to find a 12 ah sla suitable for ev use. One is a store that sells a kids toy electric car. Replacement batteries for them are EV grade batteries. The other is a store selling stuff for electric wheelchairs.

Other batteries might be avaliable, but most likely they are intended for other uses, that discharge at a slower rate. They'll be cheaper, but not as good for an ebike use.
THE LIPO RULES. NEVER ABOVE 4.3V NEVER BELOW 2.7V DON'T PUNCTURE

Ideal charging /discharging range for Lipo, 3.65v minimum 4.1v maximum

See battery technology section, FAQ thread at the top of the page for lipo noob info.

I want to know if a 36 volt 20 AH or 48 volt 15 AH Ping might fit in there, a lightweight and more powerful battery might be worth the investment.
I'm starting to explore options for when my similar set up fails to provide enough range to get to work. Would hate to have it not fit inside like the SLA's do.
