Bruno Baccalari is a famous youtube personality. He just posted a video that compares a cheap 220V Sunkko 787A+ spot welder to the slightly more expensive 709AD unit. The result:

The 709AD has a larger transformer plus an air-fan (2.4 inch, vs 1.8...62mm vs 48mm)

The 709AD has a soldering iron function, plus...

Even without the soldering iron function, the spot-welding function has a greater range of usefulness compared to the 787A+ (demonstrated in video) when welding the common 0.15mm nickel bus ribbon onto 18650 cells...

The physical act of welding two metal parts together doesn't care about the watts or volts...the only metric of concern is heat, and that is the result of amps. The 787 A+ has a max of 250A (at 20:10 in video), and the 709A is about 690A). Higher amps and heat, can mean a shorter pulse works to bond the metals...

[meter used for tests is a $500 Fluke 381]
