Anyone have experience with these cells that wish to comment? What would be reasonable amps to charge these at in a 14s8p config if speed was the main focus? Would 10amps hurt them too much?

You mean LG HG2? I am not sure if LG HQ2 even exists. I have very good experiences with HG2 cell, it is one of the most robust cell in 18650 format. And one of few which is capable of fast charging without affecting cycle life. The standard charge rate for this cell is 0.5C and this gives you in 8p configuration charging current of 12A. I have tested this cell also at 1C charging current (24A in 8p) and it is still possible without significant capacity loss. And finally this cell can do 1.33C continuously (32A in 8p) without heating problem but this high charging current is already affecting its cycle life.

Thanks for chiming in Pajda! Yes that was a typo, HG2, I had even posted the spec sheet. I’m planning my next pack with these, I’ll aim for a 10-12 amp charger then.

FWIW, a search shows a lot of posts about them

so you might want to peek at the existing discussions for even more info.

This is a list of topics with hg2 in the title

This datasheet shows excellent cycle life even at 4A charge rates:

I do not have experience with real life Performance.

I am looking at these too. Will you guys be buying from Aliexpress? They seem to be about $3.06 per battery.

I emailed a few sellers on AliExpress and Alibaba and didn’t get a good feel for the products they were selling. There’s A and B grades, old stock, fakes etc. So I went with Mahbattery in the US. Had to ship to a Kinek in Niagara Falls over the border then picked them up there, no issues. No one wants to ship to Canada as li-ion are considered Haz. Even couriers aren’t too knowledgeable in what a “cell”is and what a “battery” is. Anyway, at $4 and free US shipping I know I got grade A-1 originals. Mfg date in 2017.
