The Canal-based solutions caught my eye, having grown up in a fertile valley crisscrossed by diverted rivers, weirs, recharge, and flood control. It seems natural to tap into this low-head albeit seasonal resource; the water runs 24/7 while the supply lasts so might as well make the best of it.
Not sure how the catfish might like it though.
