Production delayed indefinitely at LG Chem's Holland plant

Post by myzter » Oct 24, 2012 8:04 pm

LG Chem Michigan Inc., which had planned to start production of lithium-ion battery cells in its new Holland plant this year for electric vehicles, has confirmed it is not in operation and that it has been “extending and expanding rolling furloughs” of employees since late August.

Yeah this is a great place to spam those knock-off designer boots. You'll sell tons here.

From what I understand Ford, and GM, are still getting cells from LG Chem's plant in Korea. It appears LG Chem is big enough to open a large battery plant and then just let it sit idle until demand increases. I'm OK with that. I would love to buy amazing cells from a truly local source some day. Hopefully people will get their heads out of their asses and start buying electric.

Unlinke A123, I don't think LG Chem is going bankrupt any time soon.

So sad, perfectly good plant sits idle going to waste....
