A power dense controller might be possible by modifying the test strip made by LFP in
http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=15093&start=0. As I see it the drain of the high side FETS would be soldered to one copper buss and the source of the low side FETs soldered to the other. A phase terminal would be used at the FET junction. Caps recommended by Bigmoose would bridge the busses. Gate drivers and resistors would need to be integrated. Multiple FETs per phase could be made by sandwiching the buss between the FETs.

This is a very rough sketch of the design I was trying to describe in the OP. The drain bus, source bus and the junctions would be copper. This is not intended to be a controller design but only a suggestion.
