generic usb<>rs232 for Lyen controller

Postby rolf_w » Mon May 28, 2012 2:50 pm

I have damaged the usb adaptor for programming Lyen controller. As I need a working adapter quickly I thought to use a generic USB<>RS232 cable which I had lying around. I checked the wiring of Lyen's adapter:

I simply de-soldered the Lyen cable (with the integrated push-button), soldered it to the corresponding pins of Submin connector

and voilà: ... it doesn't work :(
Windows recognizes the adapter, XPD ( which I use as the programming tool) tries to communicate when the push button is pressed but displays error message that the transmitted codes are bad (sorry I don't have the exact error code with me right now...)
Anyone has tried to DIY such an adapter? r

thx, the red wire (+5V) to the controller is connected directly to the red wire coming from the usb socket as the +5V is not fed trough the Submin connector. You can see the red wire disapearing underneeth the pcb it is soldered to the +5V pad on the other side where the visible red wire from the usb is connected...
