color codes? well maybe for controllers bought from sources like Lyen or ebikes.ca but for controllers bought anywhere else. color codes? you're high right?

Joking aside, these controllers often use the same color wires. red, black, yellow, green blue. and very often red and black are the +5V and GND signals for the halls. but more often it is a toss up which of the yellow green or blue matches to the U, V or W phase wires. these often have to be determined by trial and error.

that is why we have threads like:
How to determine wiring for a brushless motor http://www.endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=3484

at one time there was a thread titled something like "Known Working Motor Controller Combinations". but since none of the controller or motor manufactures consistently connected anything the same way over time, everybody gave up on it.

hope that helps
