I recently Purchased a "DC to DC step down (48V to 12V)" going to use it to power all my ebike lights that require 12V. I want to add a on/off switch that will turn on and off my lights.

My DC to DC step down connected to my 48V battery and I can put the switch between them or I can put the switch between the light components connected to the DC to DC step down which option will be better and why?

I would put the switch on the pos lead from the battery. Just in case there is a parasitic load from the converter.

The dc-dc converter will drain your battery even if the load is disconnected. You want the switch between the battery and the converter.

Thanks guys, will connect it between the battery and the converter.

I get the high voltage to my DC/DC converters from my keyswitch that also powers up the controllers. Then I have a switch on the 12V output from the converter to turn lights on and off. If my bike is on, then my converter is on and providing power for brake lights even if head lights and running lights are off.
