Please help hard time programming controller

I have prurchased a controller from electric race technologies from California. 18 fet 8000w. I have downloaded the program located in the “blog” section on the second page. Now my issue is that I cannot get communication with the controller. Unfortunately there is no trouble shooting for this. I cannot upload to the controller or download from it. ANY HELP, Canada’s getting cold and I would like to “tune” it before the snow sticks. I also have a V3 from grin on there so I dunno if it has to be disconnected.
